I'm curious, would an egg that size hatch? Because if that's not a double yolk... I assume the chick would have to get THAT big to be able to hatch and absorb all the yolk? Would it be able to hatch at the right time? Would it be better or worse for the chick? How would that work?

I’m betting you it’s a double Yorker. If you were wondering how that happened, it is a result of two or more yolks being accidentally released together and having shell and all formed around them. Most common in young layers coming into lay, or those who are coming out of their cycle.

Dang that looks like it was painful. My girls have layed some double yolks before but nothing that size. That looks like it has to be a double shell or triple yolker unless the other eggs are just really small.

Double yolkers develop into twin embryos, and on a rare occasion, can hatch multiple chicks. However, in most cases, one or both die during development, or during hatch.

I can’t remember if that one is it, I don’t think so, but I once got a triple yolked duck egg, and it was absolutely MASSIVE.
