As the wife of the man who built this coop, I have a few things to say.
First I would like to thank all the people on here who have very nicely complemented my husband, especially Bill. He, James is his name, has worked very hard on this coop and has put alot of hard work and emotion into building it. He isn't a math professor, just a self taught carpentar who recently got into the world of chickens and coops. I agee that his math wasn't correct in the beginning, but he corrected it. He definately wasn't trying to offend anyone or endanger chickens in anyway, he just wanted to put his coop on ebay quickly (mostly because I was rushing him) and didn't proofread very well.
Yes, we do have chickens and they are very well taken care of. They each lay one egg per day....and a couple of them have laid two per day. They are very happy chickens with a very nice, well built coop and run of 25 foot by 60 foot and a 10 foot privacy fence. I am not very good at math, so pleae don't attack it. I plan on asking him to record a video of "our chickens" and our coop s hat you guys can see it.
The video was about the coop, not the dog. The dog is actually a 18 week old Great Pyrenees puppy with the attention span of a 2 year old. And hello?? the music is only on youtube, the dog couldn't hear the music. I agree that music wasn't the best choice but there again....the video was to showcase the coop. If you don't like the music, don't you have a mute button on your computer? Mine does. He was trying to be neutral in his music choice and just add a little to the video so it wouldn't be so borig. He actually just changed the music after everyone complained about it. He changed it to something of his liking.
As for the design of the coop, I thought it was also strange looking when he first started building it, but then I looked at some of the shabby shacks that people call coops and I would rather have this in my yard anyday.
So to the question of WHY.....Why not?? He built this coop with, first the intent to sell it to urban chicken owners who want to have chickens in their lives, but also who have a nice home and want a nice, modern, and unique architectured coop in there yard. Second, he wanted the chickens to have a sturdy, well built home. Where we live, we do not get much, if any, snow. We do get rain, and very hard rain with heavy winds. This past week we have had many major thunderstorms, and the inside of the coop has remained dry.
I post this response with respect to everyones opinions. But regardless of your opinion, James is a very talented self taught carpenter who is just trying to make a little money doing what he loves to do. I am a student nurse anesthetist and while I am in school I cannot work. James is trying to make some money for his family and also entertain his talent and new interest in chicken coops.
And yes, the 2 boys on youtube.com are our children. And yes, we are very proud.
Thanks to eveyone who defended James and his new trend of coops!
