Ya ever see something an just think..... WHY!

As the wife of the man who built this coop, I have a few things to say.

First I would like to thank all the people on here who have very nicely complemented my husband, especially Bill. He, James is his name, has worked very hard on this coop and has put alot of hard work and emotion into building it. He isn't a math professor, just a self taught carpentar who recently got into the world of chickens and coops. I agee that his math wasn't correct in the beginning, but he corrected it. He definately wasn't trying to offend anyone or endanger chickens in anyway, he just wanted to put his coop on ebay quickly (mostly because I was rushing him) and didn't proofread very well.

Yes, we do have chickens and they are very well taken care of. They each lay one egg per day....and a couple of them have laid two per day. They are very happy chickens with a very nice, well built coop and run of 25 foot by 60 foot and a 10 foot privacy fence. I am not very good at math, so pleae don't attack it. I plan on asking him to record a video of "our chickens" and our coop s hat you guys can see it.

The video was about the coop, not the dog. The dog is actually a 18 week old Great Pyrenees puppy with the attention span of a 2 year old. And hello?? the music is only on youtube, the dog couldn't hear the music. I agree that music wasn't the best choice but there again....the video was to showcase the coop. If you don't like the music, don't you have a mute button on your computer? Mine does. He was trying to be neutral in his music choice and just add a little to the video so it wouldn't be so borig. He actually just changed the music after everyone complained about it. He changed it to something of his liking.

As for the design of the coop, I thought it was also strange looking when he first started building it, but then I looked at some of the shabby shacks that people call coops and I would rather have this in my yard anyday.

So to the question of WHY.....Why not?? He built this coop with, first the intent to sell it to urban chicken owners who want to have chickens in their lives, but also who have a nice home and want a nice, modern, and unique architectured coop in there yard. Second, he wanted the chickens to have a sturdy, well built home. Where we live, we do not get much, if any, snow. We do get rain, and very hard rain with heavy winds. This past week we have had many major thunderstorms, and the inside of the coop has remained dry.

I post this response with respect to everyones opinions. But regardless of your opinion, James is a very talented self taught carpenter who is just trying to make a little money doing what he loves to do. I am a student nurse anesthetist and while I am in school I cannot work. James is trying to make some money for his family and also entertain his talent and new interest in chicken coops.

And yes, the 2 boys on youtube.com are our children. And yes, we are very proud.

Thanks to eveyone who defended James and his new trend of coops!

If you have to ask "Why" then you dont need to know. Imho you are just being mean and a smart butt.

I like the whole idea and it is alot nicer than some of the stuff I've seen on here. Some people like Drowning Pool too!

If only 4x4 it should have 4 birds. Beautiful workmanship. If he had birds before, seems he would have done a drain in middle of floor .

Honestly I don't like it! But the fact is if I didn't think it had a chance of selling I wouldn't have wasted my time starting this little chat. When it comes to selling anything on the internet you need links from websites that are respected by websearchs. An when it comes to chickens BYC is key. Google chickens an see.

Good or bad, a chat on here linked to what you are selling can mean the difference between 100 or 5000 people seeing what you have. Yes we can be brutal but we are equal opportunity bashers.

If a "unique architectured coop" is what you were shooting for then the comments you are getting just proves you achieved your goal.

I do wish you luck with your auction.

With that kind of thinking your better off not putting anything on the net. Every thing I have ever put on here gets me the why question. An I promises you that if you dont have a good, happy thoughtful response to "why" then you wont sell. IMHO

It's different, original and would be very cute for a couple chickens in a suburban back yard. In reply to previous posts: If you don't like it, don't buy it. Overbuilt? Would it be better if it was flimsy and fell apart when you tried to move it?

Drain in the middle of the floor? Huh? Now thats funny.

Marlin, I do thank you for starting this thread because you are exactly right, we have gotten tons of publicity because of you. I respect your opinion, but why do you have to be so mean?? Do you really have to tell me "you don't like it!" Just seems there's no reason to be so cruel. Anyway, thanks again and hope you have a nice day.

Wifeofachickenman, I commend you on defending your husband and his craft. obviously, everyone has the ability to see the details describing the coop. If one likes everything there is to know, they may like it, if they don't... Well My mom always told me if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. KUDOS... The rest of you BE NICE

First thing I thought of when I watched the video was that you could probably back a tank over it because of how solid it looked to be made. Would it be for me? No but I live in residential/farmland zoning, have a couple of acres and 17 chickens including a rooster. I also viewed it as very modern looking which is not my taste but I could see it in a urban/residential area with more modern looking houses and stricter zoning and lastly no it would not be ideal for everyone's climate. Definitely not here in the north east but it would make a cute indoor brooder. I don't think it was anyone's intentions to purposely hurt someone's feelings and it does look like James has a lot of work into it. There is definitely a broad spectrum of coops on this site. If you search under ugliest coops you'll find our first one which is both very ugly AND impractical. The new one is practical and if it ever gets finished will hopefully be esthetically pleasing as well. lol Someone will buy James' coop and will probably love it and others will think, why? To each his own.
