Hello,
One of my chickens (6-8 month old hen) has somehow developed a very peculiar glob of yellow... stuff around its eye and I'm unsure what to do about it. So far we've put a drop of human eye drops into her eye to see if that helps, but we have no idea what to do next. I've included a photo below. Thanks for the help!

Human eye drops will help. Looks like maybe some kind of infection. Try some Triple antibiotic ointment (the kind with NO pain reliever in it!). You can spread it around her eye with a qtip or clean finger tip, and it should seep into the eye. Ciproflaxin eye drops are better, but you might need a vet to get those. Try the triple antibiotic and eye drops two to three times a day for a few days and see if it helps. Keep up with the eye drops too..if it were me I would carefully wash with the eye drops or saline first, then apply the ointment.

It is strange looking though. It's not uncommon for them to have eye discharge for various reasons, but I've never seen any that color. If it doesn't clear up in a couple of days, you might want to consult a vet, if you have that resource. Some vets will see a chicken for something like that even if they're not technically a bird vet.

Can you get the yellow stuff out? It almost looks like she has couple of pieces of corn in the eye. It's not unheard of for a chicken to get food/debris stuck in there. Whatever it is, it will need to come out in order for the eye to heal, if not, it can become infected.
Once you get it out - flush well with saline. Ciproflaxin eye drops as @chicknmania suggested work well for infection. I believe this is by prescription only. So if you don't have that, you can use Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel in the eyes.

If you have a vet that can help with the removal that would be best.

The yellow could possibly be tissue, swollen tissue, or fat. But try to determine if it is pus, which should be removed before applying medicine. Chicken fat is yellow, and some chickens have different color skin from bright yellow to white to grey. So try to distinguish the yellow, clean out any eye drainage with saline, and look up ciprofloxacin eye drops for chickens, which is usually available through First State Vet Supply, or get some from a vet. Terramycin eye ointment from a feed store can also be used, but cipro drops may be best. You could be dealing with mycoplasma (MG or CRD) which can cause eye bubbles or foam and conjunctivitis from sinus infection. That can also be treated with Tylan 50 injectable, given orally or by injection at a dosage of 0.2 ml per pound twice a day for 5 days.

Never thought about it being fat :) I hope the OP will be able to investigate further and let us know what they find.

If it is MG, we have found that Denagard is, or seems to be, a very good preventative for MG and MS, and we use it in the flock's water as a preventative roughly every six weeks. It's not cheap but it goes a long way. It is also something that can be obtained from 1st State Vet supply. It also can be used in an increased dose to treat cases of MG/ MS with very good results.

I'm so glad you posted this question! I am having a chicken with an eye discharge. Well it's not really a discharge it looks a lot like the picture that you posted just not as yellow. Thank you everyone else who posted I will be going out to look for some stuff today
