I don't think we have any users actually in bartow county yet (aside from yourself). But we do have PLENTY around you!

You can check out our state map at https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=895226 to see who is closest to you. We also call it our "chicken railroad", since many of us use it to find out who is near who to help move chickens closer to us without any one person making a huge drive by themselves.

This is VERY bad news. We all know how it tends to kill off crops and cause unusual droughts or flooding. But in the aspect of raising fowl, it's really bad. Last summer was a very wet one for us. Then winter was unusually strong, and longer. And how many of us have had just really crappy hatch rates this year because of it? How many times have I mentioned the nationwide failure of good goose hatches?

El Nino's not only tend to affect the crop (which is used for CHICKEN FEED) but it also greatly affects the birds themselves. Notice one of the first things it mentions in the article, is pelicans nesting in "dire straits" where they don't normally end up. Their bodies go haywire!

So just be ready for higher feed prices, and for chickens going all kinds of wacky for the rest of the year. You might have strong layers just up and quit for several weeks, or seasonal layers that just don't seem to stop. Who knows? Hurricane Opal (back in October 1995, worst hurricane ever recorded for the Atlanta area) was the result of an El Nino. Just be ready for almost anything, and don't be disappointed if your hens start acting up with their eggs and babies.
