CALLING EVERYONE TO THE TABLE ~ I just took some more pictures of two of my mystery chicks in hopes that at 2 weeks old you could tell me what they are, haha There is a black one and a black/brown/almost mille fluer colored one in it's tail feathers.

I hear ya.  How long to these surrogates get back to laying is what I want to know?  The last hen, the same age, has been broody since they hatched the chicks.  I kick her out of the coop everyday and lock it so she can't get back in and I still haven't broken her broodiness. :barnie   So, I have NO EGGS to eat!  BUT, I have some really cute chicks :weee
Try putting her in a wire bottomed cage up off the ground. NO nest or any thing she can sit in/on. Usually takes 3-4 days. Or if you have a single roo you could cage her up with for a few days (also without a nest), his "affections" may help unbroody her. I have used both of these methods before, and they usually work after 3-4 days.

I've heard about the wired cage. I am using it for my baby chicks in my potting shed, haha. I have a 5 1/2 month old boy who is crowing and starting to herd and peck at the girls. In fact he has pecked my foot, HARD and today he flew at me. I managed later to snap him up and hold him and tell him who is boss. I hope he doesn't get aggressive as we really like him and I saved him from wry neck as a baby. He is pet quality nothing special just one of our first ones.

Before you comment on this nasty chicken, let me tell you the story...

I typed all of this, but it only posted the pics. Ugh. The story...I went to see these chickens after they sent me 3 blurred pic of them. They told me that they had all of these breeds, etc. They didn't meet me at the farm, they met me at a store, not at the farm. (mistake "2) I had gotten lost, so it was dark when I got there (2.5 hrs from me). Anyway, all I noticed was that they REEKED, and were stained will good ole' GA mud. She said that she didn't have a chance to give them a bath. Anyway, further inspection is awful. Their toes are so grown out that they have something that looks like a piece of poop on some of the toes. I hope they look better after about 10 whitening baths. I'm so glad that they are here, and out of there. I imagine that they probably full of mites and lice- I looked, but I'm not so great at that. . Pam

Did you just get these Pam or where these from before? She actually looks clean so you've done a great job already. Can't wait to see her after 10 more whitening baths.
