hello from Coweta Co.

So take a wild guess who has been accepted as a Freshman at Columbus State University. A mere 25 years after graduating high school, too. lol

Awesome! Congrats to you!

Hi all! Haven't been around but I have a question for all you cooks/grillers out there. Got some ground bison and was looking for some ideas for bison burgers. My only experience with it is I tried it once. In 2002. I had high hopes. It was at a restaurant in Minneapolis and it was bison sausage with some eggs or something. Maybe a first timer shouldn't have gone that route for a first try, but anyway, it was 'ok'. I'm hoping burgers will be a better deal. I'll try anything once and if it's not so bad I might give it a second chance. SO. Who's got some suggestions? I'm all ears.

Papa, when you come Monday, could I get you to bring a couple of AM eggs? I could put them in my mini bator!

will see what I can do, I didn't get any blue eggs today. One of the ones that was laying is the one who went broody, so there's only one other one laying right now. Don't know why the other two are being suck slackers.........

on another note, someone has beat the crap out of one of my crossbreed hens. Not sure if it was the rooster or one (or more) of the other hens, but I noticed her head looking like this earlier this afternoon but couldn't catch her to check her over until they went on the roost. She wasn't roosting with the others, they were all on the roost except broody momma who's in the nest, and she was on top of the metal can I store stuff in. I picked her up from there and brought her inside where we cleaned her up and put some neosporin on her head, she was cut right over the left eye, apparently it was bad.

I wonder if broody did it, reason I say is I put a few pieces of tomato in the nest for her today, this crossbreed is always the first to run to me when I bring out food and was in the coop when I put the tomato in the nest. I wonder if she tried to get it and momma pecked at her to keep her from doing so.....
.

when I took her back, I put her on the roost, didn't appear there would be any problems, but I'm intending to go check again before we go to bed to see if she's still there or not. It could have been the rooster I guess, but I don't think this is the low girl in the pecking order.....

Awww.....that's too bad. I hope she gets along o.k., and that you can solve the mystery of who done it!

That was what I was thinking when I started reading this. I have one broody who doesn't want any other hen in the nest with her and she gets mean about it.....but not to the point yours did....but then again, I have other broodies who share willingly. Just watch them. Don't worry about any eggs.....I have ordered those others (LA and BCM) to come towards the end of Sept anyway.

Is anyone going to Jeep Fest this weekend?
No, but we had to go thru on our way to Helen and then Dawsonville.
20 minutes sitting in line approaching it.
Looked like a huge party!

I did go meet Flower last night, and absolutely LOVE my new Swedish Flowers. Such beautiful birds!
Now just quarantining them, then they will go with my Lavender Orps of the same age, until everyone is big enough to go into the main pen.

In other news, I picked up a roll of wire fence today for a new pen(s) 2 pens, 24x12, with a gate and house on the end, and then a gate on the other end to let them range in my small field with the Chinese Geese, donkey, goat and sheep. This is with the small old jenny who won't bother them.

Just wanted to say HI! I'm not technically Georgia, but I'm only 5 minutes from the GA/SC border. I was raised in Evans, GA and hubby and I moved over the state line when the children started school. I work in downtown Augusta, so I think I belong to both states. I'm new to chickens, but have raised other birds in the past (lovebirds, cockatiels, parrots). We have 3 new girls (I hope they are all girls) that are only 8 weeks old.

Send photos and we can help you decide if they are girls or boys! And welcome to the thread.
