YO GEORGIANS! :)

Yipee! My naked Naked Neck is finally growing back her feathers! She molted in Feb and has been naked until now!

She's been like this since Feb! Thought she was never going to grow back her feathers! Thought I was going to have to knit her a sweater for the winter! But here she is today! Feathers are growing! Yea!

Hey all!

I think I may have figured out the mystery, though without having seen it I can't be 100% sure. I've watched my girls some today, and not one time have I seen any of the other hens or the rooster picking at the girl with the bloody head. So I've narrowed it down to one of these two possibilities.

She tried to steal broody momma's treats and got a resounding 'ummm, NO'

or, possibly she might have done it herself. Here's why I think that, we've noticed a stray dog in the yard, I'm gonna have to make sure when I go out I carry one of the pistols with me, because it was very attentive toward the chickens in the run. If it was down there snooping around and got them stirred up, she could have flew up and cut herself on the wire. For those who don't remember, I have the cattle panel hoop run, and that's a possibility. She was down there scratching and pecking in amongst the rest of them like normal, and I do have an egg from her today. She's showing no ill effects of the cut, so I'm just going to keep an eye out and see if that dog comes back around and gets down there and stirs them up.

Yes, I'll call animal control first, but I've had them tell me flat out in the past I do have the right to protect my property in the event someone disregards the leash laws and allows their dog to come in my yard causing damage......I hate to kill some kids pet, but that would be on the parents as far as I'm concerned. The pet in their yard becomes a predator in mine.....

Flower, I did get blue egg today, and should get another tomorrow, if not this afternoon, but I should have a couple to bring you. If you will ma'am, shoot me some directions via pm coming from Waleska/Tate and in on 53, or at least an address to google

Just wanted to say HI! I'm not technically Georgia, but I'm only 5 minutes from the GA/SC border. I was raised in Evans, GA and hubby and I moved over the state line when the children started school. I work in downtown Augusta, so I think I belong to both states. I'm new to chickens, but have raised other birds in the past (lovebirds, cockatiels, parrots). We have 3 new girls (I hope they are all girls) that are only 8 weeks old.

I had a neighbor's pit bull breaking into my yard on a regular basis. She was a good dog but too interested in my cats and chickens. I caught her and had animal control pick her up.

Finally, animal control got tired of picking her up and would not release her to the owners. Lucky for her she was rescued and hopefully adopted out to a good home where she gets attention and care--unlike her previous owner.

Yes, I could have shot her but it wasn't her fault. It was the owners.

yes I agree, it's just a dog being what it is, a dog. Not their fault they do what nature intended them to do at all. I've dealt with disrespectful neighboring 'pet' owners before, I had one threaten me when I finally got to the point of telling him I was going to kill his dog if it came in my yard again. So I called animal control AND the police. BOTH officers told him I had the right to protect my property AND myself. Think it was the police officer who asked him if he didn't think I'd shoot him if he tried to attack me, and that I'd have the right to do so, especially that I now had an incident report of him threatening me....

then he turned and asked me if I wanted to press charges. I told them I just wanted him to keep his dogs out of my yard. He got a $250 citation for each of the 3 dogs (he'd been warned before), they were kept on a leash when outside after that and he never even spoke to me again. Which was fine by me too.......LOL

New additions...
Went to an auction and bought NOTHING.
Then went to Flowers house and added 2 beautiful Swedish Flowers and some chicks last night.
Then today I was given 4 hens by a lady in Rockmart who is moving from a house to an apartment.
The 4 hens laid 2 eggs today, even in the quarantine pen (4x4x4')
