YO GEORGIANS! :)

I'm so nervous, I turned my incubator around last night so I could see the eggs better when they were hatching and the temperature dropped a couple degrees last night and I haven't been able to get it to come all the way back up even after turning it back around. I don't know what could have caused it to drop... The heat elements are in the lid and I was moving that around all incubation with no change. Is it too late? They dropped to maybe 96-97 over night and got them back up to 98 now, but they've been very steadily between 99-100 all incubation and now this... I'm already dealing with shipped eggs so 2/3 already were gonners, I don't want to loose the last few. sad.png

I put one of the plugs back in hoping that that'll help bring it back up, but it hasn't been long enough to judge yet.

Be careful.. I ordered hatching eggs from someone on ebay over the summer for the bantam cochin and frizzles and out of 18 eggs I only had 3 that were fertile. The person I ordered eggs from was  dpackrvt2015 and all she said was, sorry, try to order more in the Fall, I have a very low fertility rate this time of year.

If you know your eggs aren't going to be fertile or may have a very low fertility rate, why not mention that or not sell them?
Oh yeah.. Don't worry, remember I'm the one who ordered SL Cochin eggs and ONE was fertile.. And it hatched out some weird black/brown. Not silver. Not laced.

Okay. I'm about to empty out the bator. Y'all know I've been pic-happy lately, so expect at leAst one.

I went o Tractor Supply Dallas yesterday for chick stuff I asked when the chicks were coming everything is set up for them . They don't know when they don't know what kind , I am sure someone knows but how do you run a store and not communicate this information to your employees. This is a event they have every year I would want to get that info out to my customers to get all the sales dollars I could.Thank You all for letting me rant but GET IT TOGEATHER TS .
Actually this isn't the case. Last year the chicks arrived 3-4 days later than expected due to the unexpected cold temperatures the hatch rates were way off from what they should have been and this resulted in some stores getting birds on time and some stores receiving them several days later. Why tell customers the birds will be there Monday when they may not show up till Thursday? Would you rather drive to a store and be disappointed or just call back at a later date to confirm their arrival?

Also the birds are ordered months in advance. Depending on the hatchery they may be filling their own orders first and sending TSC their extras or they could be filling TSC's orders first and sending very specific breeds. Either way there is no set schedule. Tractor could order 800 Production Reds, 400 White Leghorns, 300 Easter Eggers, and 1000 assorted bantams. What days these specific breeds show up are anyones guess. Again why quote to people specific breeds when in all reality there's no way to know until they are in front of you. Also i am sure you are familiar with packing peanuts. Do you want someone to tell you there is no chance of Black Australorps coming in then suddenly there are 25 unexpectedly?

The safest bet is to let people know the expected ship dates and it is up to the customer to do their due diligence. If you want a specific breed then you can either order them to be 100% positive you get the ones you want, you can call the store everyday around 10:00am and ask or you can make the drive to the store every day.
