This might sound weird but any experienced chicken keepers around the Jasper/pickens area willing to mentor a newbie? I'm learning a lot from this site but it would be awesome to have someone nearby that I can actually visit to get hands on learning like how you built/set up/ manage your coop, incubating, extra. Or even a fellow newbie I can learn together with?

Hey, yesterday i went out to check on my new chicks i just hatched about 6 weeks ago and i found 5 out of 7 dead its the neighbors dog because he has done it before with my silkies but hes not even hungry he just does it for sport. Im so upset :.( so i locked up all my younger ones yesterday

So sad. I lost 7 chickens this month to different predators. No dogs....hawks and bears! I am glad we don't have dogs around. (except mine who are smaller than the chickens and don't bother them!) I know how you feel.

Hey! I have a mixed flock. 2 Buff Orps, a Golden Comet, some RIR's (not my favorite), a Blue Copper Marans. I have a Splash Marans Roo, and a RIR Roo that is soon bound for the crock pot. He is evil. I just hatched some Marans eggs. Just building my flock. Can't wait to get some Americanas in there.

[/quote I have about 25 easter egger pullet chicks. Do you want me to let you know when they are ready to go? They are like 3-4 weeks old. I have French black coppers and cuckoo pullets. I love the marans. I also am trying to build up my flock of welsummers.
