YO GEORGIANS! :)

I was sitting out in the chicken yard today admiring one of my new little BCM and a hawk flew down and jumped on one of three new mommas who was out with their chicks. They all share the chicks, somewhat. I still can't believe it did it when I was out there. Anyway, it was trying to get her and the two others came to her rescue and beat that hawk until it flew off of her. I had also screamed and was running over there but it was those two hens that did it. I have seen this pair of hawks around all summer. The other day one was swooping down and the chickens went crazy and all hid. I feel like it's a matter of time but I hope they stay smart and don't let it get them. I have a lot of trees, bushes, fences, etc. They are just getting bolder. I've had the chickens here for a couple of years and this is the first year I've had a hawk problem. Someone even gave me one of those big owls that I put out there. Now I think that might be part of the problem. The hawk flew right next to it to get to the chicken. I'm more worried about this winter when there's no leaves on things. Do they stay in the winter, too?
I used to like hawks. Then I got chickens. Not sure about winter.

My neighbor gave me this long spill how it could not possibly be the hawks in our neighborhood because they are Mississippi something-another and are too skittish to bother my chickens. So I walked back home (I was over there hunting my chickens) to tell my husband this breaking news. And there sat that big ol' hawk on the clothes line pole like he owned the place. And for a while today, he did. I don't know what to do about a hawk. I heard those owl decoys don't work but a day or so. My chickens are terrified. I felt like staying out there with them tonight but my neighbors already look at me funny

Extra treats all around tomorrow!

Yes I wonder what my neighbors thought about me screaming today. They are probably afraid to ask. :) I'm being extra careful about where I am putting their water and food. I put an old kiddie table over the little water pool I have out for them so they can't get caught relaxing and cooling their feet.
