YO GEORGIANS! :)

I got ice-locked out of the silkie pen! The gate latch was frozen in place, and would NOT let me in! I hit it, kicked it, and finally just kicked the entire gate until the latch slid sideways enough to slip off of the pole and let the gate open.

Thankfully, the silkies are dry and one even laid an egg in this mess. And now, they are well-fed too!

ok, I have questions:
1) I love hatching eggs, but what do you guys do with all the chicks you hatch? I have 35 chickens/chicks right now and my DH says that is way too many. He would like to see me down to about 20 or less. But I love all my chickens....they are all different, not one looks like the other, and they all have names.

2) Do you guys ever lose a chicken and not know why? I went to NYC to see my new Grandson, and when I came back, my molting Naked Neck was sitting under the heat lamp all day. I went to get her and she seemed really disoriented. She went into the quarantine crate and died two days later. My husband, who was watching the chickens while I was gone, doesn't notice things, so I don't know if she just got too cold with that last snow and stopped eating to sit under the light, or if she had something else wrong. I also lost one while I was visiting Mobile. My DH called and said he went outside and she was just dead outside the coop. Ummm, I see a pattern here........No, seriously, do you lose chickens for unknown reasons? (and not to preditors) Or is there a problem here? The NN had bright clear eyes and no signs of runny nose, eyes, cough or any lice or bugs. She was pretty "naked" being that she carried the double Naked gene and she was molting....can a chicken actually die of being too cold?

3) Will anyone have Showgirls at Newnan?

Christy- very pretty!

GaMarans- waiting for your pics!

Ugh ... I was so worried about possibly losing power and the Cayuga eggs getting too cold only to wake up around three this morning to find that there had been a temperature spike and they were at 102. Crap-a-doodle-doo

1. Look at my last post on the page before this one. I've got TOO many people wanting chicks right now, lol! They sell easily around this time.

2. Only once. But I had gotten her as an adult from someone, and she died less than a month later. So I didn't even know her history, and it could have been ANYTHING.

3. I don't have that breed.

@Flowerbh - I have the SAME fear as you. If *I* were to hatch even a dozen extra, there would be NOBODY to even GIVE them too. And, they'd be all Roos. LOL.

@GAMarans - I hope your duck eggs will be okay!!

People DO still buy chicks in March/April & on too, right? Because I have a few different breeds I want to hatch but can't seem to get things rolling yet.. I know I'll have a few extras of each??

I really do worry about it lol. I can't have as many chickens as you crazy chicken people! Bahahaha.. ;)
