YO GEORGIANS! :)

I've been gone for a couple of months...I just got so busy with taking care of things after my mom passed, my son's FAFSA paperwork, taxes, sheesh...The list goes on forever. Anyway it's good to be back as always.

What would we do without our hubbies? I know I have been blessed by the beautiful potting shed he made me, then our first coop (gothic church coop), then he had to add on a parsonage, and now a whole new coop 12 x 16. We will build it in two phases and phase one is a 12 x 8. $$$$$$ Which it fell from trees! We thought about that option too but we don't have any to tear down :( We do have some tin roofing that someone is going to give us and hopefully it will be enough. Love to hear rain on a tin roof. Albert is a mess! hahaha He has the most unique personality of any of our chickens. Thank you. Yes he does. My husband immediately saw Albert Einstein, like so many people do when they have polish. There will be a show sometime this fall. They don't do shows usually in the spring because that is when the hens are laying and raising their chicks. At least that is what I was told. There will be a show in Dalton again on Nov 3rd. The Poultry Press newspaper has a list of all the show. That's terrible.
Welcome!

Glad you stopped by! I am east of Atlanta off of I-20. I have 10 silkies (4 silkie mixed), 2 polish, 1 OEGB, and 1 Buff D'uccle. We will be setting up breeding pens for our B/B/S and our Polish. Can't wait. Slide right in and make yourself at home Brandi! WE'RE SINGING YOUR TUNE BAGGERDAN2! You lost the others. One of my silkies had spraddle leg and I did the band-aid between the legs and he is a big strapping boy now just struttin his stuff. I live in Covington but I have a daughter and family that live down by Bay Creek. I know there is a lady off of Ozora (sp?) by a church on the corner and she had a lot of chickens, turkeys, fowl, peacocks, etc. Glad to have you join us!
Nancy we are so glad you are home. There have been lots of prayers for you and we see how God has taken care of you. I know Jac is also glad you are home. Having been in a situation where a bronchial sickness led to pluricy and that led to phnuemonia, and all because I didn't rest and take care of myself, I am begging you not to lift a finger and rest sweetie. Rita way down south! HAHAHA...Someone told me there were called misfires! I had one of my hens lay the teeniest tiniest first egg, I put it in a downed bird nest I had and used it for decoration.

The sweetest "special needs" chicken anywhere! Ten months ago today we were blessed with 4 free chicks. Three were silkies and one was this sweet d'uccle. As she started to get older her beak began crossing and hence she got her name, "Broke Beak". She was the "pet" chicken as she was allowed to come in the house daily and dine on her mash. She would fly up to the counter to make sure you were making it right, and sample it, as you were trying to make it. She would fly on your back, arm, anywhere she could as you carried the dish to put it down. She was the first one out of the coop squawking loudly and running as fast as her little legs could carry her to the back door. Today she lost the battle of her disability even though I was syringe feeding her. She will be so missed because she was so special. I wish I could of saved her...
Thanks for letting me share! She was a love.

Is it a duck? Because, I can't tell hence the head is in the egg shell. Never mind I see the brown shell. I guess that's what I get for staying up to late.

eggcited to see some with new babies
.... been visiting in ga past month and a half ... am heading back to pa soon and then heading back to stay in ga somewhere more permanently !!!!

Lol. I got babies popin out like popcorn! Been dozin off here and there but its hard when all you hear is chicks playing soccer with the rest of the eggs! Especially since the incubators on the night stand lol!!

How high should watering nipples be mounted from the ground? Please and Thank you in advance :)
Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this. It's been a pretty crazy week.

The pipe is 18" - 22" above the ramp. Of course the pipe slopes down-hill maybe 1/2" in 8 feet so that it will drain when I open it up. The ramp under it varies in height.
I used a 2-hole EMT strap to attach the pipe to a 2"x4". That way the pipe is kinda snug and they can't wiggle it around.

I've got Barred Rocks, Americanas, Red Sex Links and one really big Black Cochin roo in here. Depending on what type chickens you're going to have, that will give you an idea of how high to mount it.

Hope that helps.

Hello all.. from over here in Carroll County - hi Floyd folks not far away. Well, good to be doing a little farming! Mostly bunny tending and a little on the chickens. Yahoo. I figured it will take about 2 months to recover from that time in hospital.... But I'm slowly working....Ooh eggciting egg news. Fingers crossed and prayers said, our first Sebastapol eggs are in the incubator....Hoping Hopin Hoping.... It would seem that I have one gander and two gals....We will know soon..... I know I have two gals (so says hubby) cause 2 eggs every 2 days like clock work....So Mr. Sebbie is being tested!!!!! If not, I know a roadie trip is in order. Here's a pic of the three. They are young born in 2012. So different from our white chinese geese who are soooo loud......Sebbies are quiet...... This pic was still there growing up stage....Guinea fever has set in for hubby.. Hubby is resisting the urge to incubate every guinea egg...They have been laying since March1.....Crazy early for them.. I think I saw a tear in his eyes this morning when I cooked some guinea eggs...... This weekend, hopefully the lavendar guinea pen will be set up....... They kept escaping the last one.....All the other guineas run loose and for the fun I'll let a few lavendar guinea boys run with them too....Love the various colors we get.. I will let hubby do a big guinea incubation, but priority is those goose eggs. Last year I think he hatched about 1000 of them, no lol, b ut it sounded like it as their brooders were on the front porch by our bed room windows. Yowsers!!!!!!!!!! ha!

Yolk Alert Coming up.....BIG HAHAHA of the day.....Okay I know it's bad when you have to announce you should laugh here....
ya.gif
But here goes.............How many broody silkies does it take to sit on a goose egg....visualize about 5 inches or so long and maybe 10 ounces may a little less...........Seriously do you think two silkies would cover a goose egg???? I have two very determined ones right now........ Our silkies have hatched out lf eggs, even a few guineas for me last year, but I think I better say no..... Now where is a LF broody when you need one..... I'm going looking today!!!!!! Jac has snow peas coming up and also planted onions and potatoes yesterday. Strawberries are growing like crazy..... It's almost spring......Now watch out for the late frost...... Have a great day. The sun is shining in Georgia and calls me outside again in about 40 minutes!!!!
