YO GEORGIANS! :)

Right now? Or the one I plan to build?
The one I plan to build will be either 4x4's, about 8 feet long, which I will bury 2 feet in the ground and make the rest about 6 feet tall with chicken wire on all sides and a tarp on the top.

The one they are in now is a screen arbor that I bought online for $80. It's just like a tent with fiberglass poles, but all four sides are just screens.

So it is an open air coop? No walls or doors or anything the plan is just to use chicken wire and a tarp? Unless you have livestock guardian dogs to patrol the perimeter all night I can't imagine how that could offer much protection from predators.

Maybe I am confused but why don't you build a regular secure little chicken house and just lock them in at night?

Oh no, they will still have some shelter inside, although maybe not lockable. They always chose to roost on TOP of any shelter I give them though, never inside. The pen is to give them room on the ground to roam, stretch, forage, etc., unsupervised, without danger of hawks getting to them.

Plus, I am trying to separate them by breed so I get purebred babies, so they all have to be confined, away from the other breeds.

so a run is what the wire and tarp is for attaches to the coop?

Really need to find me some local chicken lovers who speak enough english. Your all either waking or going to bed when im able to get online. From the map you posted doesnt look like anyones from any of the counties where I might have kinfolks. Tattnall, Laurens, Bullock, Johnson, Swainsboro...my 5th greatgranny is a Swain. I did genealogy work b4 moving here now ive set back my lifestyle clock 50 to 100 yrs. Internet is a slow luxury only for quick chats and medical info searches. From unlimited hi speed to 20 gig max downloads was a shock to our systems especially since I homeschooled my girls. If there is anyone from the counties I listed pipe up, more than likely we're related. Or as my auntie was once told when she visited Georgia...dont get frisky with none of them boys, they all related to ya. One of my military neighbors in Colorado was retiring and said he was moving to Georgia to a quiet life. I asked him where to? He told me, Cobbtown. I sat on the ground in shock. Told him thats where my mommas family is from. Found out we were distant cousins. Lady in Washington state I met online related to me on three lineages.:D

I seem to be kin to most of the southeast.... That is why I had to import a wife from Canada.

Yeah mine love their little coop and always sleep in it at night, in fact they are in it more than half the day too. They couldn't perch on top even if they wanted to because the avian net sits on the roof of the coop so they can't get up there.
