YO GEORGIANS! :)

my first '3 egg' day! the other australorp laid it's first egg today! bless her heart, I think she thought she had to poo, it was in the sand in the poop tray. So much I could say right here, but I won't, bahahahaha:lau here it is beside the other two I got today, and then beside the other brown ones. It's small and lighter, besides the fact I only have two brown egg layers, so it has to be the other ones first.
I cant wait for my CCL pullets to start laying. I have yet to see them squat for the roo man.....so I am patiently waiting....18 weeks old......

well let me look at a calendar.........so tomorrow, my ameraucana's will be 24 weeks, 2 of them will be 23 weeks. The three leghorns 22, and the australorps 21. I've been getting an egg from one of the leghorns since July 15th, and the first aussie since the 20th.....so that would have put the leghorn at 20 weeks, and the first aussie, with the way the days fell according to what I was told when I bought them, the aussie by then would have become 20 weeks old as well....

said all that to say, you could be getting close, but the key will be when they start squatting. You're approx 5 days to a week away at that point.

well my first 3 egg day, just changed to my first 4 egg day.

not sure what to think, because this egg is small and brown too. So that's three brown eggs today, two of which were small........but I only have 2 brown egg laying chickens, or that's all I'm supposed to have. I did collect eggs last night, and I checked the nest box when I went down there to check on the kids on the roost, and there were no eggs. I didn't go out there this morning, I waited until we got home from church. This last one was still warm to the touch, so it had just been laid. Oh, it was in the nest box........

so either one of my aussies has laid two eggs today, or one (or more) of my ameraucanas is laying brown eggs, at which point I'm going to be very upset at having paid full price for what was supposed to be purebreds that lay brown eggs..........

here's a pic of them together, outside in natural light

didn't notice this light spot on the first one earlier today, but now that's it's gotten cold it has light spots on it

and here's the two new ones side by side on the counter

so here we go, 3 brown eggs from 2 hens that are supposed to by laying brown eggs.......

It is possible that one of your hens laid two eggs in one day. When a pullet first starts laying eggs, her body isn't 'regular' yet. Chances are she had a potential egg fall and start thru her body and then another one fell a few hours later and followed it. Hence, two eggs in one day. Sometimes, two 'eggs' fall at the same time and travel down together and end up in one shell (double yolker).. Sometimes an 'egg' gets lost near the end of the journey and another one falls and 'finds' it and pulls it along and you can actually get an egg within an egg. There are all sorts of abnormalities with new layers. I wouldn't think your AMs are laying the brown eggs.....unless, indeed, they are not pure. But, my bet is that you had a pullet lay two today.

Which of these chickens lays an almost white egg? RIR, Barred Plymouth Rock, or Red Star ( red sex link). I also have two white leghorns but I get two stark white eggs a day besides the almost white one.

RIR should lay a brown egg
BPR could lay a really light brown egg or a brown egg
Red Star should lay a large brown egg

My Barred Rock laid a really light brown egg so I vote for the BR! LOL

Yes ma'am, something I knew was possible but forgot and didn't consider. Thank you for the reminder....At least she got the second one in the nest!

Not sure if she laid the first one directly in the sand or if she was on the lower roost, glad it didn't break

Some of you "closer to the ocean" people down in the south end of the state got any good sporting goods stores that sell heavy duty deep sea fishing gear that also sells on line?  None of our local big box stores carry the heavy stuff.

Have you check bass pro???? My hubby always gets his gear there or you could check out west marine. They are we good for boats and fishing and gear.
