YO GEORGIANS! :)

I'm definitely doing what you said Flower, my next hatch (next week) I'm going to make sure to make the humidity increase more gradual over the course of the lockdown. I'm very seriously considering doing the egg cartons like that too, I'll need to round up three cardboard ones, LOL

I candled my eggs last night and I have 22 out of 24 developing nicely, they were doing their happy dance, the one wasn't fertile, the leghorn hen is just too fast I guess and the other egg had the blood ring.

I store pointy end down. I do wash hands before handling eggs in the incubator.
This batch I brushed off dirt, didn't wash.

I have a fan, don't think there are hot/cool spots.

Eggs either go in a spare turner or cartons are tipped twice a day (one end of the carton on a book)

My whole house is pretty cool. M
Next time we will run two incubators, and run lower humidity on one for lockdown. Mwhatever happens happens during lockdown.

Great! I was just trying to help figure out what was going on

I appreciate it! I'm just frustrated that I'm not getting better results. And them dying at the end hurts me!

Then there is the fact that the three BW Ameraucanas I did hatch out of the dozen eggs I bought, are NOT BW Ameraucanas.
They are blue in color. :(

I saw his stock, and the BW are the only blue egg layers he had, I thought.

Ugh.

I posted in the Dixie Rainbows thread and maybe should have posted here.... any of you guys buy the Dixie Rainbows from Tractor Supply and have problems with them in the GA heat? They look like the perfect bird for me to get started with, but then I saw where they are affected by the heat. What has been your experiences with them here? Thanks.

If you need some cardboard ones just let me know. My aunt Linda (you know her) gave me a stack of the Ingles cardboard egg cartons but I like to use the foam cartons.

Posted this to instagram yesterday. Thought some of y'all might find it as funny as I did. Enjoy...

Well really feeling bad, my little and loveable Serena that I really took a real liken to just passed. Prolapse Vent finally did her in. Everyone in the family is taking it hard, she was so spoiled.

Well I've always read/heard don't help, that they get out on their own or they won't make it.

My personal feeling is if its going to die in the shell, am i really hurting it if I help? I mean it wouldn't be underdeveloped, so why not help?

Someone clarify the "why" for me please

I'm certainly no expert and have not personally hatched eggs but, when the family that did hatch our eggs got to day 23 on the RIR x French Wheaton Maran chicks, they cracked the shell a bit and 3 of 4 are still doing well almost 8 weeks later. The shells were so tough it was just hard for them to get through. I will say, the one that did make it out on her own is the strongest hen, but the other three are still sweet, healthy and starting to learn how to forage. I say it's a good choice if you think there's a chance.
