Thanks, Liv. At least BSLs are have decent egg production, even if they won't breed true. The bird my daughter has become attached to looks like it may be an Easter egger, since it's developing "sideburns", unless there's another breed that sports that look? That little brown chick got mixed into the SS the seller was carrying (they had EEs with them, but I had really wanted to stay away from bantams).
If there is any sunny side up on this, you do know a lot of people here who will happily give or sell you some chickens. I believe there will be the announcement of a mid July swap meet in Macon. The organizers are trying to firm it up so that they can truly announce.

I was already upset the dang seller didn't bring 10 black chicks so, I got a couple other breeds I hadn't planned on foisted off on me because my 9-year-old was with "picking them out" at the meeting place. I checked their legs when we got home and they had seemed the right color black and not yellow. Now the pullets are definitely developing brown neck feathers though.
