That's the whole point with the wire. put it high enough to where they can't get to the roots or pull it up. I will find my camera and post a pic when I get home.

Ohhhhhh this is a great idea! We're starting on a larger run tomorrow. I think I'll build some of these 12 inches wide and run it along the fenceline on one side of the run! If I attach it to the bottom 2x4 of the run, I think it could actually act as predator skirting as well.

Hmmm, I trying to figure out how to make this work all the way over a 10x10 dog kennel without sagging. Right now I move my coop/run once a week over a annual rye crop. 10 birds are better than a lawn mower

I usually just toss the mowed grass in with the chickens . They eat it up pretty fast.

I have a patch of grass in my run, built very much like yours. I bought a roll of sod and planted it, it is growing with filtered light. My kids love it.
