Young hens having flatulence.. need advice

[QUOTE="ChickNanny13, post:

Good news, the vet has finally contacted me back, and we will meet tomorrow to discuss what he believes it is. As for right now I am keeping the hens in and am only feeding them their traditional chicken food. Also been bathing them in Epsom salt. So tomorrow I hope to get a full answer.

I hope so too! But believe me, they sure are "farting" for sure, I know that seems very uncommon for any bird but that's been confirmed by the vet , this is was is occurring, in the x ray taken, they said gas was definitely present. Which brought up the possible candidate that this is some sort of internal infection with the cloaca, they said that flatulence is a sign of some sort of infection in the cloaca. It was very shocking to find this out!

I hope to find out what is happening tomorrow, when I see the vet again! I will give a update when I know :plbb

I’m sorry, I can’t help laughing at farting chickens. Could the food have gotten spoiled by heat or humidity? If it’s fermented then they might have a yeast infection - yeast produce a lot of gas. Clostridium does too but that would make them REALLY sick so I am thinking yeast overgrowth. I’ll be checking back tomorrow for updates!

Lol thanks for the info, I never thought about yeast infection, but that is definitely be another possibility with the chickens, I was so absolutely dumbfounded when I hear the first hen pass gas! I didn't know they could ! But it turns out that yeah, they can fart because of some sort of cloaca infection. It is possible! That is what I assumed it was something to do with cloaca at first.
