I'm so excited to get gardening. I got my seed starter mix and going to scrub my trays and get out the heat mats soon.
I've got some hot compost going now in the 30's here.
my goal is to increase growing space and mow less and less till I have nothing but food. A food forest!!

That's my neighbor. Their whole backyard is raised beds, the only part they have to mow is between the beds. They grow so much over there, it's crazy. They even have a fig tree, which to me, is awesome

Just ordered poppy seeds to put out soon and hazelnut seedlings to plant on and around a hugelkulture bed/ hobbit hole doghouse.

Also getting a raised bed ready to plant persimmons seeds in the next month. Going to plant as many as possible so I can sell off a few seedlings next year.

Wow, do you already have wild American persimmons? A friend gave us some to eat. We saved seed, stratified them in moist peat for like 60-90 days and about half came up after we planted them. We planted them, all but 3 died or got eaten by rabbits. I hoping we will one day have a productive persimmon here in western ny.

I might have a persimmons tree or 2 I don't know about lol there are several on my dirt road within a mile and my best friend has 3 next to his house.

I've been slowly clearing out oak trees and I'm going to replace some of them with fruit and nut trees

Fig is the only fruit tree I have (I don't eat much fruit, and I don't care to manage fruit trees). Planted it, sorta forgot about it... everyone said it was a sad and ugly tree, but I finally got 2 small harvests of honey figs last year!

Maybe I should. I think I know a spot the girls like to roam and should seed it too. By fall I can harvest seed and plant then down the highway rightaway so I can share the neighbors.
