I remember seeing a TMV resistant variety listed by a seed company 2-3 years ago. I didn't buy any but maybe should have. The seed where 4-5 times the price of any of the regular hybrids I've been using. I need to check back at some of the U of F releases for the humid gulf coast areas and see what they have. Homestead and Manalucie are open pollinated and may still have some disease resistance. I believe some people do grow the Homesteads around hear. Memory can be wrong but I'm thinking those two were also developed to have heavy foliage to help with sun scald on the tomatoes.

Have you tried the hybrid Big Beef?
I have grown it for 2 years along with some heirlooms. It has good disease resistance including TMV and nematodes.
It is also very meaty so makes a nice canning tomato or for sandwiches.
I will probably grow it next year too.
I ordered my seed from Twilley Seed in SC. I have always had good luck with their seed. They ship fast.

Thanks for the info. I did see that on a list last night from a list that has been published. I will give them an order and start my own plants next year. That is the only way to know for certainty that you are planting what you need to. I will also plant some Invincible tomatoes for canning also. I found one other plum tomato that is supposed to be and will plant it too. We use so many canned tomatoes that we need to can at least 48 quarts to get us through every year.

I'm dehydrating cherry tomatoes. I saved the seed from some of them. I'm VERY disappointed in the majority of the cherry toms; watery flavor, not much flavor. The three kinds I'm drying are 1)great, 2) good, and 3) pretty good. We'll see how they are dried. Because I can't eat them all!

I'm also drying some of the cucamelon. We'll see if it's anything worthwhile. The plants are still going gang busters.

Well, I gave yard long beans a try. Entirely turned off. I picked one that looked like it was ready (no seeds forming, but long) and it was pithy, tough and blah tasting.
