there may not have been anything wrong with the bird, Heat stroke will kill quickly.
Saturday & Sundaywas so very hot and if the birds were in the sun, hot car, cramped quarters then heat not illness is the issue.

This is the main reason I did not attend that swap nor the one in Tilton too hot for the animals. heck too hot for me.

I know for a fact that the "usual" market fair/chicken swappers that we have gotten to know would NEVER EVER sell a sick bird! Is it worth it to have someone haunt you and spread your name everywhere for $5 or $15 bucks?? Nope, not me or any of my other chicken friends think so!
Please don't be so fast to judge we love these birds and bond with them as many of us take care of them before they are formed in the egg. I don't know of anyone that makes enough money to live on from this-- it's a hobby!

If this person was an older man, with a cane, and two younger women walking with him, than you might have been taken advantage of. He's known for buying or taking free animals, then re-selling them(his choice). But he's also been known to sell sick animals. I told as many people from our group not to buy from him. But this may also be a fluke. I've had very good luck buying animals from the people here.

totally understand...i would hope that this isn't the case. only feel this way because they will not return my calls. wish they would have called me just to say that it was healthy and may be due to the heat and they love the animals that they raise-this hasn't been the case so far...

I am really sorry this happened to you. I know a lot of the vendors there, and am pretty sure if it was one that i know, they were not aware of any being sick.
I do hope you get hold of the person who sold you the chicks.
Gypsy is right about the heat, too long in the sun can kill them very easily.
And the drive home with as well if it is too far with no water in this heat, boy that will really do a number on them.

Good luck , And hope your next experience at these swaps will be 100% better.
