That's MY last resort too...I can't do it unless there's nothing else left...If he wasn't eating and he was pale and couldn't hold his head up up, then I'd feel more like his quality of life was snot...Same with Penny: she's eating and drinking and pooping, she just can't move around well...

He finally stood up in the pet carrier for the first tme today, but only for about a minute, then he just fell down panting. Must have taken alot out of him.

As long as he's trying, that's a good sign.

Especially since he's still eating and drinking.

I sure hope he turns the corner. I think putting him near the little ones is a good idea.

Has anyone mentioned this happening to their chickens? It's so puzzling and upsetting.

Idea - put a mirror in there with him. Maybe that would perk him up.

Cyn, can you take temps on a roo? Just a thought. Had a turkey sit on one of my hens it took 4 long winter months of being in a dog crate to get well. Shocked she is doing so well. I just kept her isolated and fresh feed and water and she pulled thur.
Swear they drive you bonkers trying to figure out how to help them.

Hmm, can you take a chicken's temp? Don't see why you can't. If I remember, isn't their normal body temp something like 101-102? I'll have to look that up. I know this is not something he caught, but an injury. So, not sure what an elevated temp would tell me, exactly
Four months, ml? Wow, that's a long time! Glad she recovered from being crunched by a turkey. What a weird injury.

That's exactly why I wont consider Suede as the main flock rooster, LOL.
DH brought Zane out into the sun, sat him on the ground, and was massaging his back, up and down his spine. DH has had back surgery and has degenerative disc disease (some discs are just gone now) so he's familiar with massage, and at one point, he must have hit a certain spot, because Zane abruptly jumped up and walked a few steps. I think a Roo-massage is in order daily for awhile. He can barely walk but if DH squats on the ground and holds out his hands, Zane will hobble into his daddy's arms. That rooster is very special so we'll give him every chance to recover. I figure by the time my broody's chicks hatch in just under three weeks, we should see improvement in Zane, at least some, if there's going to be.

I held Penny in my lap and did PT with her little legs and feet and she actually walked a few steps...3 but that was the most she did all day...

It almost is sounding like he has a bone out of place, Cyn. I wonder how you would figure this out and if there is a way to "pop" it back in. I'm sure there would have to be. If he hopped down and walked a few steps, I'm wondering if maybe your husband readjusted one of his bones to where it made him feel better, but hopping down might have messed it back up. Just a thought!!! Do you have any decent avian vets around that could get an x-ray of him and read it well enough to see if this might be an issue?
