Zilla the Pigeon...*new questions & pics*

wow...I personally think you need formula until they are weaned and can eat on their own...

Like I said, If you have difficulties with them just let me do it!

Do you know what pipe to put the food down so They don't choke?

BTW feed them whenever they beg! I think 2-3 hours should be sufficient...

Going by pics of your baby, mine look like yours did around day 11. Specially the bigger one. The smaller one might be a little younger or a runt.

The smaller one is probably just a day younger. Pigeons only lay two eggs, and they start setting after the first is laid so the second one hatches a day later. The major size difference is probably because the larger one was more bossy and got more food. I noticed a major difference in size with my last pair, and they were just a day apart. Good luck with them. Also, I believe the squabs put their beaks in the parents mouth, so squirting it in their beaks may not be too natural. Im not sure how else you could do it though, so that's no help! Good luck and keep up the good work.

i would actually open the beak and put the syring in its throat and squirt the food down SLOWLY !! Dont go to fast they can choke and die extremly easily and fast

If you use the tube, make SURE you put it pass the wind pipe. Do NOT over fill the crop.

They look like 12 day old ,and a little under weight.

hi..you asked if the pet store sells anything that can help..they do..its called "Kaytee baby bird formula"..its awesome stuff!..and i really think that you need it... also..AWESOME IDEA! about bending the spoon into a v-shape!...thats how i fed all my baby parrots..its the safest way to go..i dont like syringes ( i only use them as a last resort) becaue they can asperiate the food into their lungs..if you use a spoon they take what they want...and swallow THEMSELVES...awesome job you are doing!..keep us posted!..Wendy

if you use a tube or syringe..you HAVE to go in the right side of the beak/throat...if you dont ,it goes directly into the lungs....please only the syringe as a last resort.., WEndy

when i hand rear cockatiels i use pippettes not syringes it is way different and a baby can eat better from them cause it goes down throat and they suck it down on own usually. yes u need to do right side to mis windpipe. i don't think if they r not eating on their own they will get enough to eat with just a spoon but kool idea how u made it.

i'd be feeding them 1-2 hours or more if they r wanting it as they get older and u know they r getting full then space it further apart. hand rearing formula would probably work best i agree and i'd put a shallow dish of food and water also so they can peck around they may just surprise u pigeons ween like 4-6 weeks faster than tiels do. if they see u as momma and u peck ur finger to it u may just teach them how to eat on their own but suplament them to for a bit to get them fully eating on own first.

first borns r always the biggest cause they r hogs and big mouths and they get smaller as they go cause mom and dad feed them in order of birth. i agree pigeons r usually 2 eggs 1 laid a day after so they r probably siblings about 24 hours apart. yes by her pics i'd say about 12 days old also. that poes me if someone is gonna sell a non weaned baby like that they should have gave u directions on how to hand rear them but alot of times people get pigeons and foster them under other pigeon breeds so mabe that is why but it's still ignorant they should have told u upfront.

make sure formula is warm so they can digest it and crop fully empties at least once a day or they can get sour crop if to hot or to full they can have probs also.

hope that helps and u r doing great all u can do is try best u can. i have hand reared tiels for about 10 years now so if u need help just pm me and i'll walk u through anything i can to help it is a little different with pigeons but alot is similar.
good luck!!
