Zimmerman charged

The BBC showed Zimmerman speaking from the Court to the boys parents. He apologised for the death of their son, saying that he thought he was older than himself.

Also shown were pictures of the back of Z's head, apparently taken immediately after the killing, with blood on it and allegedly caused by a blow on concrete.

Z has been bailed.

The stand your ground law is nothing new. It predates the Constitution as part of the law of the land. There are lots of reference to it in the 1800s. It being put on the actual books in several states was just to get votes. It changed nothing. The only thing the "stand your ground" rule actually does is stop the court from making you prove that you could not run away before using deadly force. In many states now if someone breaks in to your home you have to run an hide in the back closet an can only defend your self in they still come back there after you. "duty to retreat"

The stand your ground rule removes that requirement but only for the non aggressor. The "duty to retreat" still applies to the person that starts the altercation.

Actually, I think it is a fair assessment to say that the black community cares...

How would it not be? Do you really think that the black community has no concerns about racial inequality? I never said they did. ALL Races have concerns about racial inequality.

Go to a african american college club meeting and see if they are concerned. I've actually been to several of these meetings and Racism is a part but not the huge issue it is being portrayed about

Go to a black church and ask them how they feel about racial injustice.Wouldn't this apply to any church not just "Black Churches". Racial injustice is a taboo subject for all nationality.

And actually, black is a perfectly acceptable term to most "african americans" by the way. Certainly all of my family members who are black, all use and prefer the term.

This is more of a regional things. In many regions it is not acceptable to use that term. And since this community is full of many regions some people may have been offended which is why I mentioned it.

You may be interested to know that many "native americans" also prefer to use the term "indian". Let me be clear, I said many, not all.

Yes I'm well aware that some chose to use the term Indian but that doesn't mean you have the right to use it on all Native Americans. Especially if they make a point to say it bothers them.

The purpose of the Thread was to discuss the case without taking this to a giant race debate which IMO is what it is becoming.

It would seem from the 911 transcript that he stopped following Martin. So how did he end up shooting Martin ? Would it seem that Martin came back looking for Zimmerman ? Would that not go along with Zimmerman's story ?

Yes your right it defiantly does not. In my opinion I find it very hard to believe a 14 year old boy would try to assault a man much larger than himself in the middle of the nice. However, I'm also very interested in seeing how things play out in court

He was 17... another media blooper.

Yea, according to the witnesses Mr Z was having his butt whopped an could not retreat anyway so the "stand your ground" V/S "duty to retreat" stuff does not even come in to play. He could not retreat.

This picture is of Zimmermans' head taken by the police.

This photo is misleading at best as head wounds bleed profusely even if it is just a nick. A very small wound can cause this type of bleeding. And I mean a pin prick! I am also unhappy about the amount of the photo that has been cropped off.

I do get that, but in this day and age that type of law just leaves it open for people to kill for sport.
