I made a cage out of hardware cloth but I can't find it. I bought these bags a long time ago for something like $5 not knowing I would have a use for them. It just seemed like a good buy. They're reusable too. I dump the hatching debris in the compost pile, wash them and dry in the sun. Thanks for the great ideas. I think if I use hardware cloth even with great care, the chicks will always be at risk of injury around the edges. These shrimp bags are perfect. Now if I can just get them in time for my hatch.
I am going to make dividers in my bator with: Legos, window screen, hot glue sticks, and a bic cigarette lighter (rats chewed my hot glue gun's cord in storage)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!Bammadude & ravynfallen are grandparents!!! 27 1/2 hours early ravynfallen's new laying Am pullet egg hatched. 10-15 min after that 3 more hatched. Second chick out was a Pure Am from ravynfallen. Third out was bamma's large pinkish egg. Looks to be a maren mix all yellow with feathered feet. Fourth one is from ravynfallen's new laying Am pullet. 6 more have pips. 3 of bamma's and 3 of ravynfallen's. I'll update later seeing how I just came down with a fever of 99.5 and couldn't go to work lol
