There's nothing like a bit motivation.

They're funny sensitive little soles. They go off the lay when it gets to hot and then as soon as the weather changes they go broody. Just can't win.

Think my girls are suffering from S.A.D. That cold change that came through Syndey yesterday has turned 4 out of 5 little ladies broody. I see an egg drought ahead...Time to enforce some restrictions - no egg eating between 10am and 4pm.

Thanks for the tips guys. I managed to get one of them with the hose a couple of days ago on a high powered jet. Seems to have deterred them a bit but I have a feeling they'll be back. Was thinking of trying one of those plastic owls on the roof of the coop but don't want to scare the **** out...

I use sand in the run and sugarcane mulch in a deep layer (around 6 inches) for the coop. Has worked great for my 5 girls so far and doesn't smell. I don't even need to remove the droppings just mix it in and add some fresh mulch on top. The bottom layer composts and I replace the whole lot...
