Out of curiosity... What time do any of your roosters start crowing? My little guy seems to want to wake up a little too early. Still dark early...3:00 am early. Is this just normal, or do I have an early riser? The coop is not artificially lighted or anything.

Sounds like fun! I have a long list of good, reputable, breeders for all types of dogs... if you give me a day I can get a good list together for you. Are you open to other breeds, as long as they can be outside?

Thank you all for the advice! I'll keep checking into it, maybe find a good book with specific details.

Curious as to what you all do if you can't get rid of extra roos or drakes. Do any of you butcher? If so, is any one willing to explain how? It's not high on my want list, but I have birds that can't stay as I have no room.

Sorry for the delayed response! Thank you so much! He's my favorite! My terminology may not be quite right, but, he's a bantam red, black laced Cochin. He was just a kid in that picture. I still need one of him fully grown but this is his "Growing Up" collage! (yes, I may be a little crazy...)

Welcome! A bit of a warning, if you visit you will almost definitely want to move here. At least that's what happened with my family. ;)

OK...I know it isn't a chicken or a duck or any other kind of bird...But I couldn't resist sharing a picture of the newest member of the family! Here's puppy Skye, my 9 week old Doberman Puppy! She's a real Sweet heart!

Thanks for the info! It's very nice to hear from someone who's had dobermans around chickens! By the way, are you by any chance interested in any or all of the drakes? I don't mean to push, I'm just curious because you mentioned them previously. They are just for giveaway, not for lack of...

Sorry for the delayed response... I have 3 Khaki Campbell Drakes, and 1 Welsh Harelquin Drake. They're all 14 weeks and very sweet! They're starting to get really pretty, green heads and gorgeous wing feathers! Thank you for asking about the puppy! I'm really excited for her to come. She's...

Concerning our get together, I LOVE the potluck idea. I think it sounds really lovely. I am available most any date. An update on what's up, I recently posted pictures of my 13 ducklings. All are still doing well, seemingly very healthy! All are pretend quacking, so, HOPEFULLY they are...

Ok, so when these two (white and red) were chicks, I asked if any one here knew what breed they were. I'm now curious if you could tell a little better because they're older. They were "supposed" to be cochins. I have a cochin and I now know they are definitely NOT. They may just be a backyard...

Yay! So glad you got them! That sounds fine. I might have to come see them at some point though!

I'm able and willing to help out. Do you still need $21? I'm not by any means an experienced chicken owner, but would really love to get some of the chicks at some point. Maybe you could go over some options with me. Thank you so much!

Female Duck is Drooling and Listless!

Thanks both for the concern and advice. I put her in a my quaertine coop, gave her the charcoal, and watched her. This morning she seems much better is eating and drinking normally and generally making a ducky racket! Now it's time to figure out what caused the problem! I will continue to watch...

Female Duck is Drooling and Listless!

Sorry for the confusion. Looks wise she is normal. No abnormal physical appearance, except for the occasional drool from the corner of her mouth. Her behavior is what is different. Sluggish, sleepy (closing her eyes) not wanting to stick with the flock. She also seems to be having trouble with...

Female Duck is Drooling and Listless!

I have no idea if it's an infection or not. She didn't act like this yesterday though, and I keep a very close watch on my birds health. Not sure what you mean by notification?

Female Duck is Drooling and Listless!

Unfortunately we don't have a vet that treats poultry or any kind of birds near us. She looks completely normal, bright eyed, nothing coming from her nose. It was even difficult to tell her from my other 2 girls. I was doing some more searching and I'm wondering if it could be dehydration or...
