Short answer - It is a beauty pageant for chickens. You take your best chickens to compete with others that have brought their best chickens and the judge chooses the winners. If you are familiar with other animal shows, it is a similar concept. Lots of work goes into the conditioning and...

Usually when no one answers it means they don't know. She is not a standard color and I don't think anyone can just put a name on it when it isn't - looks to be very diluted with some soft "freckles" of buff coloring and some gray in her head and tail. Do you know the color of her parents...

If you are hatching them, it will be approximately 6 months before you can show them. They can live with the "regular" chickens till then if you want them too. Just allow enough time from your first show to separate them to get them conditioned and ready. You won't really know for sure if they...

Thanks for the reply Groundpecker. My birds are T/P tested, but I didn't get any bands. I just got a signed cert and the tester told me to make copies if I sold birds or eggs I would give a copy to the purchaser. You have to send a copy to the show secretary with your show fees.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but at an ABA & APA sanctioned show, do I need to be a member to participate - is it for just their point systems? I am currently a member of the ASBC. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find the answer. I know I can get my points for the Silkie Club...

I could give you a lot of different colored partridge chicks and how they look now, but you and Sonoran would have to make the equations for them. Example: This one grew up to be this: This one grew up to be this:

It is too bad. There are not that many shows in my area (without driving for hours) so I have to make the ones I can. I did have one that is molting and broody and another that is broody that I planned on taking. That's why I ended up taking the younger girls. They tried making it cooler - they...

It was too hot for everything!!! That was inside with fans on also. The hottest part of the day is around 5 or 6 in the evening, which 5 was supposed to be our earliest release time. Who knows how hot the barn was at that time. We checked out as soon as we could which was 2:45 - 3:00. I did...

Getting ready for show. They didn't like the bath too much, but they all loved the blow dry!!! Didn't get a dry picture of this partridge girl. I took two but they were blurry because of her flapping and flopping around. (this should have been my first clue) Show Time (our...

I like their color a lot Aoxa. They look like blue or even lavender partridge! Very pretty! You should post pictures of them in the partridge silkie thread. Here is my really dark partridge boy you might like: He was lighter just two weeks ago!

Thank you Sonoran. So, are they plucked or is that "altering" their type? I do remember someone clipped a hard feather on the foot that was curling up the wrong way. I have been pleased that I have been raising silkies that have good thick foot feathering and I personally like the look.

I know the middle toe needs to be feathered, but is there such a thing as too much feathering on the feet? Like on all five including the little thumb toe? Their feet are wet because they are playing in their wading pool here, but you can see they have feathers on all the toes. I'm sorry if this...
