I have 13 eggs hatching sunday(fingers crossed). 8 that look real far along, 4 that I can't candle(green EE), and a brown that may have quit. Here is the last batch.
I started turning the lights off for 1 hour every 4 hours when they hit 2 weeks. Now I am at the point where they stay off for 6 hours over night(more for my sanity) and they sleep during that time. My home stays about 68 degrees so they aren't freezing. They are a little chilly, but no problems...
Anybody have a good design for a waterer that reduces mess? Can't keep the chickens from crapping in the waterer we have. Just thought there may be a pretty simple design other than suspending it?
He is doing great! I don't understand the aggression, but he is super healthy and likes to be held now. Loves worms and wheat grass too! Not sure he won't eat anything! LOL
I have between 7-11(fingers crossed) developing and should hatch Saturday into Sunday. Got the brooder all cleaned out...
I had this exact situation! 1 of 4 hatched. I bought 2 to go with it, and it didn't work out. The two new ones were killed. Hope you can figure it out.
I have 15 more eggs in the incubator. We are on day 9. I candled on day 8, and 12 are growing. The green eggs are hard to see through, but pretty sure I saw the veins. The 3 that have not started are all white. Not sure if my rooster doesn't like a particular hen, or if one has an issue, or luck...
Ok. I will try that. Mine is a Sussex cross, possibly pure, but can't be sure. Turns out it is super aggressive, and has been playing possum with its agility. Way more advanced than previously demonstrated when alone. The other two, we have no idea. Possibly Rhode Island is the father, but...
I need advice. i picked up two chicks to go with my one. They are one day older. My chick relentlessly attacks both of them. It won't stop. I believe she would kill them both! I trade them out of a Tupperware dish to keep them separate. Am I paranoid or is there a chance the two chicks will get...
Thank you all!! I put a mirror in. Seems pretty lethargic. Don't know how normal that is. It starts chirping every now and then. I chirp to him and he perks right up! First day is rough on us both!! LOL Not sure who layed him, but his dad is a Speckled Sussex.
Day 16 in the incubator. I am down to 2 eggs from 4 at this point. I am close to finishing the brooder. I covered the top, and it got up to 103 degrees, so I know I can get it where I need it. Still not counting the chicks, but I ordered a feeder, waterer, and will get shavings and feed on...
I was looking to get some RIR chicks anyway. Hopefully I will be able to find some close to the same age, and just run them together. Getting pretty excited!!
