I was the same exact way. I loved to hear their bird sounds, it was just so nice. The house is just too quite without them.

In making a bath for the chickens, where can I get the sand for it. I read that you are not suppose to use play sand. Can I use sand that is down by the river or the sand that your purchase, is it cleaned before selling?

I posted this question in another forum but since I am in this Colorado thread more than any other I fiqure I would put it out here too. I was wondering if Backyard Chickens has an app? If not, does any one else have a chicken app on their phone and if so what is it?

I don't know anything about Roto-tiller engines but it does not sound good at all. Plus it makes it even worse when you are working so hard for the chickenfest...sorry!

I know I shouldn't worry but I am. The pullets are in the coop. They are 8-9 weeks old. There are 4 of them. I have the heat lamp on in the coop. But dang it is cold out there and the wind is blowing. I know they are probably okay but I still can not stop worrying about them. I thought...

I know exactly how you feel. We just finished our coop yesterday and did some tweeking today. It felt as though it was never going to get done and that the girls would be full grown hens sleeping in the bed with us!!

I have mine going in. At first we were going to have it go out but then when we went to put it on we realized that the way the run is built is wasn't going to work out. Now that I have it opening in, I like it that way. It does not block the path and I can put the wheel-barrel or bucket right...

Chicks went outside in their coop for the first time and are no longer in the house. I must say that I miss their chirping,. It is so quiet without them around that I told DH that I am almost ready to bring them back in. I didn't ever realize how wonderful a sound they make. I just assumed...

Funny, I am in the same situation. Chicks are 6 weeks, I have 4 hens, and I want to move them outside ASAP. They have been out in their run for a few hours each day but at night I bring them back in because we are not quite finished with the coop. This weekend I hope to have everything...

I too live in the city of Fountain and had to get a permit. If you go into City Hall they have the pamphlet in regards to keeping chickens, you can also pick up the application. The ladies there were very nice. It took only a couple of days and it did not cost anything to get a permit. All...

Here in Fountain, I too had to get a permit. Not only for chickens but for the size of my coop and the placement. I am allowed six Hens, no Roosters. I bought four Hens so later down the road I can get two more when I want a different breed. My coop can not be over 6 feet tall. It has to be...

That is exactly what I was hoping for, snake snack! I know people love the snakes but I am not one of them. There is plenty of areas for them to go to, but they are not invited to my backyard....

While you all are on the subject of snakes, is there a way to keep them out of your yard? Last year I must have had about six which I found while gardening. Mind you they were very small, maybe a foot long. Still I do not care for snake no matter what they eat. So this year I would like to...

I know that apple trees grow very well here in Fountain because every other person has one in their yard. I would love to plant an apple tree in my yard because there is so many yummy things you can do with apples.

Funny because a few weeks ago I was in your same situation. My husband thought I too was crazy. He has never had chickens before but he does love eggs so he was very open to the idea. When I got the chicks I would watch and worry that they were okay. Now after 5 weeks I still worry but a...

Yes, I wrote down the information for the chicken fest and I plan to attend. If my husband isn't working that day he would love to come as well. I will bring a dish but not sure what it will be.... Very excited to see your ranch and the chickens. Any other show isn't till June or later...

I know what you mean. My chicks seem to have cabin fever as well. With the snow last weekend and other storms it has been a struggle to get my coop and run finished. I am a bit nervous that the girls have yet to be outside. I am beginning to think that I am going to have a chicken HOUSE...
