I have not seen the feathering you are talking about, the feathers are lower that the "knee"? Seems strange, but sounds pretty. I agree about the feet color, my SS cockerel and Pullet both have pearly white legs.
I agree, their coloring is different, but I do not know must about Welsummers. Oliver had a longer tail and feathered lie a pullet, everyone I talked to said the SS take a little longer to differentiate. We did a really funny thing with him, we would let him watch other roosters crow on...
I have one SS pullet and one SS cockerel, there was no difference in feathering, the only way we could tell any difference was the comb, and then the crow at 7 weeks. Looking back, these are signs I missed: first, he was adventurous and his eting habits were different, he did not like to share...
I think that 3 is a pullet and that one it is too early, two looks like a pullet as well. By 6 ans a half weeks my roo was obvious...the pic is my profile at 4 weeks and there are other ones posted. He is SS but they are similar.
We have done both it is certainly easier to hardboil but my girls like the scrambled egg, oatmeal and eggshell breakfast on cold mornings. I have heard this helps with laying in colder months. Although my chicks are only 10 weeks. They are very nice chicks and happy. You know what they say...
They will be fine, there is a higher water content in those things...grass, etc. and this causes the loose stools. If it does not return to normal after a day or so then offer oatmeal. This should help to firm it up. My chicks also get this loose stool if they are too warm. Like if I leave...
He is 9 weeks on Monday. He began to crow at about 7 and a half weeks. If you are interested in seeing him check out the FB page Hunter's City Chicken. It is my sons page and there is a lot of helpful info on there about sexing chicks and how we knew we had a couple of Roos. I will say that...
So the verdict is in...our Olive is Oliver. He began crowing this morning. If anyone in Northern Michigan would like to trade I am interested. We can not keep a rooster where we live.
I agree I also got my chicks at TS and although they are fun I bought all pullets and of the 6 there are 2 that have very large combs. I am really worried because I can not keep them because of noise ordinance. This is our first year with chicks, and we are having a blast and would hate to...
I am crossing my fingers for you! My SS has feathers like a pullet, attitude like a pullet, feet, pelvis, etc except for that darn HUGE comb! I wish I could know already...so frustrating, but kind-of fun too. Just waiting on a crow. They are almost 8 weeks, so we should know soon, I hope...
