I was researching avian flu as it's hitting our state. Since I was in BYC I searched here first and found your article. Even though it's several years old, I found it informative and it educated me quite a bit. Thank you!

It's a great method I've heard before but never tried it as I never saw it before. Great photos! Especially the one done who looks a bit mad. ☺️

I have heard people who tried having issues with them falling off though but your explanation to make it fit better would help them had they read this. I have hatched 100s and wound up with two w/ splayed legs thus far and cut a thin strip of vet wrap which did the trick. It's good to have different methods though as every chick can be a new challenge! I'll try yours next time to see! :highfive:

This is very thorough for anyone considering an NR360. You covered everything well! We owned one for a couple of years, then wanted to go bigger so found a used Brinsea 56 EX and use both of them now.

Your condiment container for the distilled water is ingenious. I have a 2-cup plastic measuring cup I use and often spill.

I may try those plastic clips as I have probably opened the cover at least 100 times and it just never came easy to me.

I lost the red plug...probably a cat found it and batted it somewhere but until it shows up, I cut a piece of hard plastic to cover one side during incubation and both sides during lockdown.

Thanks for the tips and the article. Next time I see anyone asking about this particular incubator, I'll give them the link to your article if nobody else does. :love

Excellent illustrations and explanations! I don't have ducks, just chickens, so was looking up how to help another member who thinks their duck has bumblefoot. I don't think it does but I'll still share this with them in case it would lead to it. Thank you!

This is awesome. We have a coop, and an aviary, but are looking at building something else for an outdoor breeding pen for our silkies to be used for every month but winter. Something like this would work great and also, if I get my wish to raise quail someday!

As for the anonymous person who commented about your chicken wire not being preditor-proof, I would have too but I read your explanation which makes perfect sense. I just wish people would read before judging. Nice job!

Yes so far it has been a year and I haven’t had any issues yet with the chicken wire. Even with rats/ mouse which is probably the only threat in center cities. They have plenty of things to eat in the garbages in the street I think 😂

I'm sorry but I was hoping to find more help here in the development of chicks in an egg. This article is a decade old, but came up when we search "candle eggs" and it's not hugely helpful to someone who is asking what do they look like each week. I have to try find some other article for them. If you're still here, you could really spruce this up!

Thank you for this article and all the great pictures you have to help explain it. We have a member with a newly hatched chick presenting with curled toes so wanted to show them how to splint it. I shared this with the member, and grateful I found this!

This is a great article. I'm an old chicken tenderer, and have helped answer questions through the years, but now I'll just share your article when someone asks.

The only thing I personally don't agree with is to just worm my chickens to prevent something they don't have or get. I've never had to worm mine, and if the time comes, I will then. ☺️
