I would still do a run. I've always let my chickens free range but there had been enough times where I had to put them or leave them in the run that I'll always have one just in case. The run part of the coop isn't all that expensive compared to the rest of it.
Six years ago, I moved and had to give away my girls.
Now I have the green light for a new flock! Plus we have two boys now which means a bigger flock.

I've got a bird who lays her egg then immediately breaks and eats it. I'm not sure how to break her of it. I've heard of some of the egg eating fixes like putting pepper in the egg, but she only breaks and eats hers and it's immediately after she lays. She's making a mess of the nest box. :(

I have an Ameraucana (from the hatchery so probably really is an easter egger) and a welsummer that were hatched in July. The welsummer is about a week younger.
The Ameraucana just started laying and my welsummer...
I'm not going to find out today, I don't think. She was rather fussy this morning. Then she went into the nest box and was there for a while. The other girls went in to cheer her on. I thought for sure today was it, but she has emerged and is back to pecking the ground. No egg. Just a long...
