Roo limping for 2 weeks, suddenly worse

I had a rooster and 2 hens doing the same thing. I lowered my roosts form 32" down to 18" and put more pine shavings on the floor to make it softer for them to land on. Within a couple days, they were walking normal again. Maybe something like a cactus needle poked his foot and walking on his...

    Floor

I used treated plywood and deck stain on top. I've had now for 3 years and the floor is like brand new. I lost some paint off of it though so I'll have to stain it again pretty soon. I keep the floor and poop board cleaned every morning. It takes only about 5-10 minutes to scrape it up. I have 8...

I'm looking to get one chick to add to my flock. Is there a hatchery out there that will just sell m

It is not good to get one chick to add to others, at least get 2 or 3. It will be on the bottom of the pecking order and will be pecked at a lot. The survival rate is better with introducing more chickens to a flock They will get pecked until a pecking order is made. then it slows down after a...

What makes a coop "Fort Knox" predator proof?

If your window latches are on the outside of your door, then you need to turn the door around so the latches are on the inside of the coop. you may have to turn your door latch around too. I also live about 60 miles north of lansing and your coop and run looks somewhat set up like mine.

Winter is almost here!! Share your tips and tricks for coping the elements with your chickens!

I didn't mean the pop door was on the west and north side, I meant it was on the north side only. the plastic is on the west and north side.

Winter is almost here!! Share your tips and tricks for coping the elements with your chickens!

With your plastic on top, It may get too heavy and pull down chicken wire if that is being used. I use a tarp and have to keep the snow off of it. I need to put metal sheeting over the top instead of a tarp. I also have plastic around half of the run on the sides that will block snow from...

    DID MY BABIES LAY THIS!!!

RR's and Leghorns would lay small eggs like that if they were young and this was their first egg.(s) Your one chicken on the right looks like a golden laced Wyandotte. They have a flatter comb. I have a couple of those that look just like her when they were young. I would think the egg would be...

coccidiosis and scaly leg mites (?) please help!

Leg mites can be treated with Vaseline. Just put a generous amount Vaseline over their legs and in a few days, the mites will suffocate and die. work it under the scales.

    chicken toys ??

I cut about 12" of length off a clothes hanger, loop the end for a rope to tie to, Shove the wire through the top to the bottom of the lettuce or cabbage and bend the bottom of the wire (about 1"). Then when it's gone, You can straighten it out and put another one on. Raise it above their heads...

Chickens heads ripped off in the night ? What did this 2 just gone , in closed coop all around & top

chicken wire is useless for raccoons and Fox. It is used to keep chickens in but it won't stop larger animals from tearing a hole in it.Be sure all small openings are closed off. I use 1/2[ hardware cloth. you could try a live trap large enough to trap a fox, if you think that is what it is. You...

IT'S A VERY SAD DAY TODAY..............

You can keep the best ones in the house using a dust mask for a diaper and maybe make a spot in the basement if you have cement floors using bedding over the cement. Just clean daily to keep odors down plus crack open windows during the summer to keep animals out. That's the only way I can think...

New member & just finishing my new coup

I would difinately change to 1/2" hardware cloth as soon as possible. Fox are sly and will attack anytime. Your roosters will help protect from predators and will fight until death.
