    Silkie gone broody

Now that is one ticked off hen. We'll see how strong her desire to be broodie is. She was trying to get out of the crate when I first put her in. Then she set and pulled the eggs under her. I came back a minute later and she is at the gate wanting "out!" I am ok with her deciding either way...

    Arizona Chickens

Hello all. I have been on BYC for a little while and been planning on saying hello here, but yeah not the best at getting to everything I want to sometimes. I actually fluctuate a lot in my online activity, so am the type that may be on for a few hours and every day for while and then just...

    Silkie gone broody

Yes that is what I got the bantams for but I did not want her to do so yet (Ok, I will stop trying to get Mother Nature to go along with my plans. ). They are only 6 months old and we are coming into the cold. I have tried discouraging her and took the eggs away, but she keeps getting/laying...

    Your definition of Omelets

A very good friend of mine is the omelet maker. He does use just a tiny bit of water added to thebeat eggs for fluff. He absolutely forbids milk/cream added when he makes them. Cooks in the pan in a thin layer til nearly done, adds the fixins and folds. Absolutely wonderful omelets. I on the...

How much do you pay per bird for processing?

I have only talked to one butcher here in northern AZ and he charges $5 per bird. Therefore I do them myself. I may ask around more when I get into some larger numbers though. If I can find it for $2 or less, it would be worth it.

Another what are we post ;) - all bantams - 3 more further down

Wow, I can see Light Brahma now that you all have said it. The biggest difference that I see after looking at the 2 breeds is the comb. Is there anything else glaring at me different?

Another what are we post ;) - all bantams - 3 more further down

Thank you so far. I was trying to add these 3 when my computer stuck its tongue out at me and refused to go on. 4. This and the next are my favorites color wise and I have no idea on breeds for them. I intially thought hen on this one as well and have started to think otherwise. 5. I am...

Another what are we post ;) - all bantams - 3 more further down

Ok, most of my bantams came from a mixed lot, so I had no idea what I was getting. They are from a feed store and therefore large hatchery birds. I know they are not the highest quality, but the girls are here for the job of being broodies for me later on. I want to try both incubating and...

what woke us up at 4 in the morning. *GRAPHIC PIC!*

No one was bit or got scratched (with open wounds) right? Rabies is trasmitted through fluids, so if not you should be fine. But, I would check any pets (cats, dogs larger livestock) for any possible bite/battle wounds as well. Glad you all killed it, as I very much agree that this was...

    Certain foods toxic to chickens??

Quote: YUP. Mine love cherry tomatoes too, but not the same as watermelon. Reminds me of sharks in a feeding frenzy. Up here in the Pacific Northwest we can't grow watermelons but monster zucchinis are almost as yummy to them. I split them lengthwise and lay them out in the pen. The chickens...

    Naraganset trio - sexing

You are all right. Neither of the older birds would do any kind of serious displaying and both would occasionaly puff up, but for just a second. Well the younger decided this mornning to let it be known to all that he was trully the man. Very nice strutting and displaying. The older that you...
