I got my first egg from Roxy, my barred rock, yesterday. She is 22 weeks old. My granddaughter took it home with her before I could get a picture of it. She was to eggcited to give it up. My speckled sussex, Dottie, who is the exact same age as Roxy, isn't even close to laying.

They were both almost 20 weeks when they laid the first egg. And I have good news: Princess, my RIR, laid a real little brown egg today, with a hard shell and it was in the nest. I think she was happy she finally got it right. My next two chicks are 16 weeks, and while Roxy, my...
Winnie (GLW) laid her third egg in a row today. She just goes in the nest makes a little noise and pops out an egg. My GH ate two of the eggs yesterday. For those of you that have had eggs for a long time you will think I am so silly, but I couldn't eat them. I have never personally known an...
Pele, is it possible for Princess to lay another egg today? The membrane egg was in there this morning when I went to let them out of the coop. For the past hour princess has been in the coop making noises and sitting on the nest then getting off the nest. And when she turns around I can see...
Well we got our first egg, but it wasn't a good egg. You were right Happy Chooks, it was Princess the RIR that laid first. The egg had more of a membrane than a shell on it and Princess was eating it. It must have broken open. I hope the next one is a better egg.
I thought our Winnie was going to be the first to lay, but she still hasn't produced an egg and now Princess is showing signs of being ready to lay an egg. They are both 19 weeks old.
The grandkids all named mine
Princess Goldy (We just call her princess) RIR
Winnie GLW
Dotty speckled sussex
Roxy Barred Rock
Elizabeth either a white australorp or an austra white
Tinker Bell New Jersey Giant (She was very tiny and sickly, lol, she's not any more)
I am a new chicken mama and am waiting for my GLW, Winnie, to lay her first egg. Her comb is very red and she is 18 weeks old and two times last week when I went to open the coop in the morning she was in the nesting box. I can't believe how apprehensive we are, waiting for the first egg.
