    What should I see when I "candle" an egg. I'm not using an actual candle. I'm using a pretty strong flashlight. Also When should I start to see something? She's been on them for 1 week tomorrow.

    Ever since BYC changed the forum, I've been having trouble getting into everything. It is about10 times slower than it used to be. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem and if anybody knows how to fix it.

    hens getting raked

    I know I have too many roos for hens. I have 3 roos and 11 hens. They all will be 1 year old at the end of the month. The chicken saddle sounds like a good idea but wouldn't it be defeating the purpose? Isn't a saddle meant for riding?

    How do I stop my roosters from raking my hens? Some of the girls don't have any feathers on their backs at all. I'm afraid if I don't do anything, they will start to get all raw and bloody. Somebody please help!

    We would like to raise our own chicks but not really sure how to go about it. We've got a couple of broodies but only one I think would be the best.     How long can they go without laying?

    We've got a young EE,9 months old, and she hasn't laid an egg since October. Is that normal? The others have picked up their egglaying since molting, but Flicka hasn't. Is there anything we can do?

    letting broody set!

    We were thinking about letting 1 of our Australorps set on some eggs just to see if we can get some chicks. Are we supposed to keep her seperated from'the others? What would happed if we just left her be and didn't check under her until 3 weeks later?

    light on in coop

    We have been leaving a 100 watt light bulb on in the coop for extra light and some warmth. It's been about 40 degrees all time in there. My question is, will the light, being left on all the time, hurt the egg production? We haven't gotten any more eggs (2 to 3) and I heard a rooster crowing...

    pale comb.

    Our EE hen hasn't laid an egg in about 2 months. We were figuring it is because she is molting plus the cold weather. This morning we were looking at her and noticed her comb is very pale. I suppose there are a hundred reasons why it is pale. Are there any obvious ones? Could she be egg bound?

    Thanksgiving- What are your plans?

    On turkey day it will be just my wife and I at our cabin deer hunting. Then on Sat. we will be celebrating with the family coming to the house. Anywhere between 16 and 20 people. I'm in charge of the meat stuffing and the mashed spuds. Deb does the rest. Happy Thangsgiving to everyone!!!!!!!!
