    California - Northern

If you can make the drive up to the Redding area, they seem to be something of a Mecca for chickens in the North. I've been thinking of going there for mine, when I'm ready, despite the distance (I'm also around two hours away). Just glancing at their Craigslist, I counted two or three people...

BUSTED! Now looking for last minute help.

Okay guys. As someone with legit disabilities, who is trying to get a real service animal, I'm really kind of offended by you all telling the OP to pretend his CHICKENS are service animals. According to the new ADA guidelines from 2010, only dogs or miniature horses legally qualify as service...

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the sand is supposed to be easier for chicks to grip than shavings or paper towels, so might help your hurt chick stand up.

I've actually never been to Redding. I mean, it's not that far away. A couple hours, but I could go there if I have to. ....Although I've heard that 299 isn't exactly lovely to drive on. But as of right now, nah. Don't really get to Redding.

Does anyone know where to buy older (sexed) chicks or pullets/hens in Humboldt county? Or nearby, actually. Anywhere within three hours of Eureka, but the closer the better. We don't want to deal with really tiny chicks, due to an extremely predatory house cat, but driving six hours or paying...

    First chicken coop help?

Sure thing! We're trying to make sure that it's made so the chickens always have a nice dry place to go. Wet hens are one of the saddest things ever, so our two big priorities here are keeping them dry, and keeping them safe from cats and raccoons at night. Today we went to the scrap yard and...

    First chicken coop help?

Hello! I live on the northwest coast, with relatively tame, wet, weather, My sister and me are trying to build our first coop. So far, we're thinking a 6' x 4' structure, with a wood floor raised up on cinderblocks to keep it out of the mud. We'd put solid plywood walls on end, and partway...

    California - Northern

Hello! I'm new here and I live in far northern CA, near Eureka. Does anyone else live in the area? I'm trying to find people to talk to about how to find/buy older pullets/young hens locally. And just to chat with, of course!

    Hello from Arcata, CA

Well, it was kind of my idea first. As in, everyone in the family has known that I wanted chickens for the last five years or so. But we just moved somewhere with a yard for the first time - and our new place is owned by family members, so no landlady telling us no chickies! I just didn't...

    Hello from Arcata, CA

Hello! I've been lurking on this forum for a while, wishing that I could own chickens myself. Well guess what - the other day, my sister (who I live with) came up and said she wanted to start building a shelter, so we could get chickens in a few months! I figure I'll need some advice in the...
