Gave my bird away, then got him back... Now he looks different!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the average day-time winter temperature in Hawaii around 70? Why does everyone keep bringing up frost-bite?

    Wanna see a wet hen?

LittleChickenRacingTeam, Your chickens are beautiful, what breeds are they? Maybe being wet makes them look more exotic lol.

A child did that? What kind of disgusting MONSTER could mutilate an animal like that... absolutely sick... I would have been furious!

    Stain/sealer for coop

We used non-toxic out-door "barn" paint from Lowe's... I want to say a pretty large can of it was only 10 or 11 bucks and it's designed specifically for outdoor animal shelters. Down side is it only comes in three colors (green, red, and white).

    Crowing hen? *fingers crossed*

I posted an ad on craigslist.com and here and had a couple people email me from the craig's list ad... I just don't feel comfortable giving him away to total strangers. What if he's mistreated? I would have no way of knowing it...

Oh, I'm going to cry... I can't stand to get rid of him not just because I'll miss him but because he and Bela have never been apart. I don't know if anyone will be willing to take care of him temporarily for me but I would be willing to pay for the favor. Bela and Chick:

Thought I had all pullets, but these two still make me wonder.....

Your beautiful white EE pullet and my handsome white EE roo would make pretty babies! Too bad you're so far away!

    north-central FL EE roo FREE

Just found out that our 4 month old EE is a rooster (and is crowing away every morning). He's a total sweetheart and it breaks my heart to let him go but we cannot have roosters where we live. We bought him at the feed store in Williston, FL where he was sold as an "Americana" so I don't know...

    Crowing hen? *fingers crossed*

Wow okay caponizing is definitely not an option but thanks for the info... Six this morning he was going at it for a good 30 minutes. My fiance and I don't mind the noise but I'm sure our neighbors will get fed up pretty quick so I am going to have to get rid of him Bela (An RIR and his...

Two cockerels - normal for one to act like a hen?

I don't know much about different breeds of chickens but that first picture didn't look very roo-ish... not much of a tail to speak of. And I have heard of crowing hens, no kidding.

I guess this may be a silly question... Can roosters be neutered?

    Crowing hen? *fingers crossed*

Thanks for your input everyone! It's not great news but I'm glad to know... Now to convince my better half that having a rooster is a good idea...

Unfortunately we're breaking the law even having chickens here at all (even though we have a big back yard) so having a noisy bird drawing attention to us is a bad thing. I know, I know it's pretty irresponsible to have chickens where we're not zoned for it but we plan on moving later this year...
