She's already on Cipro. She's a laying hen, not for eating. She can't be feeling too bad as she's still laying 4 or 5 eggs a week, which is her normal. The white bit is hard, I tried getting it out but she won't sit still long enough.
Hi all. Last week one of our hens turned up with an eye injury. She's acting totally normal, we gave a couple shots of duramycin, then put her on ciprofloxin eye drops. It's helped some with the swelling, but I think it's stalled out. Advice? She's not a pet, so we aren't going to do anything...
We are in Archer FL and will be getting a pair of emu chicks in a few weeks from a local breeder. We have a small farm with other poultry, goats, and pigs. :)
Thanks everyone! We haven't ever hatched eggs before, we were only gifted a little giant styrofoam incubator a few weeks ago and then were gifted some duck eggs yesterday by our goat breeder to experimentally hatch.
We have muscovies, but they aren't laying yet. Freeloaders.
What humidity...
I have heard it isn't the best incubator but I will never turn down a free chicken gift! We have 22 hens and 5 roosters, and more pullets growing in our brooder. Our hens are getting back in the swing of laying after their winter molt, so I'm excited to do a test hatch!
What are some good...
Hi all! I'm new here. A few weeks ago we were gifted a Little Giant Styrofoam incubator with a fan. We have never incubated eggs before, but have saved up a couple dozen from our flock to hatch. Our eggs are all fertile that we check, we have only used them for eating so far, but other than that...
So, chicken math is upon us again, along with a gifted incubator, and this year we would like to set up individual pens to house and breed our chickens in. Most of our breeds we have 5-7 hens and 1 rooster, so we are looking at somewhat larger pens. What size would you guys start out with? I...
Of course not! If this turns out to be a hen we plan on keeping her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. I'm afraid though, if it's a tom, he will likely out pace his body's ability to keep up since toms are so much larger than hens. I'm sure there's something we can come up with...
We went ahead and banded his foot at the spot where the twine cut of circulation. Debating on fashioning a peg for him to walk equally on it, but I'm not sure how it would work out. The foot looks worse than it did last night, unfortunately, and the skin on the toes was starting to slough off.
That's what I was afraid of, it looks like the foot is dying to me too. I'm not sure if he's in pain, he certainly doesn't seem like it other than the limp. He walks around our bathroom just fine. I am just concerned that as he ages, if his weight will be a problem. Turkeys are a lot heavier...
Hi all,
A couple days ago, we came home to discover one of our turkey poults had it's ankle wrapped tightly in twine. We removed the twine, and are hoping for some feedback and opinions on his progress. Right now he is isolated in our spare bathroom making a disaster of it.
A few hours after...
Is there anyone in Florida that sells muscovy ducklings from a clean flock? The post office here made another disaster with our duckling order and so far we only have 6 of 20 alive still and I have no idea if those will even be strong enough. 5 were DOA and the hatchery is sending those as...
Chicken math: When you decide to get guinea keets to cut down on fire ants, but realize that they just HAVE to be brooded with some more chicks so that they don't learn to bully the chickens later in life...
