Naked Neck chicks arrived this morning (PICTURES)!!

Love the turtle necks! And, ladynewtochicks, their eggs are medium to large brown eggs. And when you look them up for info they don't really put them as good egg layers but they have been wonderful egg layers for us, nearly an egg everyday when they are younger and then every other day when...

Quote: Whenever I get new hay, I clean out the hay barn and give the chickens all the loose stuff to play in. I also use it to fluff up their nest boxes!

    Hatched Naked necks!!!

We have a small flock of six naked neck hens and 1 naked neck rooster. We've had three for about 1.5 years and the other 4 for about a year. Two of our girls went broody so we thought what the heck, let's see what happens - assuming they'd either abandon the eggs (which they've done before) or...

My lactating Saanen has diarrhea - please help!

Hello, our Saanen goat, Gigi, has been milking beautifully for about a month and a half. Yesterday she came down with really bad diarrhea and low appetite. I called the vet who said to try some pepto bismol and see what happens. And to bring a stool sample tomorrow if it doesn't clear up. So...

HELP! Newborn goat and mama problems!

We purchased a Saanen goat that was pregnant from a person that seemed to have a lot of experience and a large, healthy herd. The deal was she wanted to kid Gigi out at her place, and keep one of the babies. So the day after she gave birth we brought Gigi and the baby home. Everything was...

Violent change of pecking order? Help

We originally had three naked neck hens and when those were about 7 months old, added 3 more naked neck hens and a rooster. Up until this morning, one of the older chickens (Gertie) had never allowed the rooster to mate with her. And the rooster was always submissive to her. This morning I...

Short Video of our new coop and run

Love your set up! The best part was definitely the dog-rooster interaction: "ooohhh" Lol. I wish I had a dog that safely chase our somewhat opinionated rooster around!

    HIdden egg nest question!

My six girls hadn't produced a single egg in about three days. I thought maybe the winter hours has finally stopped their egg laying and didn't think too much. Until this morning, when I couldn't locate the sixth girl. I found her laying on a clutch of eggs of about 16 where they sleep! She...

ok for girls to catch mice?

I just wanted to second this story to say that a rat was bringing things (from the compost) into the girls nesting boxes and one day it was dead-flat out on the area in front of the boxes! His eyes and other body parts completely gone. The day before one of the eggs was broken in the nest...

    Rood Roo

Vlad is a naked-neck/turken rooster. He is mostly white with deep green, iridescent tail feathers-very handsome! He is much bigger than the naked-neck hens, who I have no problems picking up.
