Pros: Easy to find everything, very informative.
Cons: Would've been more helpful with extra illustrations.
One of the first chicken books I received as a gift, it helped with the learning curve of keeping chickens.
Anybody can find something they need in just a few moments.
I learned many new things "chicken" after I read this.
Pros: Great layers, cold hardy.
Cons: Aggressive with other chickens.
The title basically says it all. They are fantastic layers, usually an egg a day! They are cold hardy, and can stand the coldest temperatures. They can stand the heat, but don't like it, Plus, their dark plumage makes it harder for them. Another con: they are aggressive with other chicken breeds. Two of my BSL's are bullies, and are always picking on my Silkie. My other two aren't as bad, but are cranky. I would recommend them for someone who lives in a cold area and who want eggs year round. But not for someone who own birds like Polish and Silkie's.

Leghorn

Pros: Great layer, eats very little, great forager, friendly, lapdog!
Cons: Don't tolerate confinement well, flyers.
My 8 White Leghorn pullets are the friendliest breed I have ever raised. And I have raised quite a few breeds, and some of my breeds include Silkies, EE's, Brahma's, Australorps, etc. But still, my Leghorn's are lapdogs who want my company over their sisters company! They eat very little, and get 3/4 of their food from foraging! And on top of all of this, they are fantastic layers who begin laying at around 18-20 weeks, 22 weeks at the latest. The only cons though are that they don't tolerate confinement well, and are flyers (they don't fly from me, just towards me!)
I love my Leghorns and would totally recommend for anyone!

Australorp

Pros: Friendly, nice, beautiful plumage.
Cons: No cons.
Even though my Australorp pullet hasn't started laying yet, she has already proven she is going to be a nice, friendly, and smart (not to mention, very beautiful!) chicken breed! Co-op had lots of black australorp's in March and I am so glad I reached in the bin and picked out (in particular) my black Australorp, Avivia (strange name, I know). I picked her because she looked like a little baby emperor penguin and she was soo cute! I'm soo glad I picked her because she turned out to be a hen. I recommend you get yourself a few! Oh yes, I'm more than likely stock up on them next spring! (I hope!)

Orpington

Pros: Lays lots of eggs, hardy, gentle, and docile.
Cons: No cons.
Orpingtons are the best! My former buff orpington was the sweetest thing! She passed away when she was nine. She was gentle, kind, docile, laid lots of eggs. She would never be aggressive to the other girls. She would always be so tame when I went to pick her up. She would also go broody (she was hard to break!

) I really miss her (Bobby Joe, lol) I plan to add lots of orpingtons when I get more chickens in the future!

I love this breed! My barred rock (Fanny) lays lots of eggs and isn't that aggressive, a lot of people say that they are aggressive. Very beautiful markings and colors.

Pros: Curious, fun, not really aggressive, just a great chicken!
Cons: Can sometimes be aggressive.
I love these birds, they all come in different colors and shapes. They are also great winter layers, (as other people say they are not) They have colorful eggs and are so docile! I would totally recommend this chicken!

Silkie

Pros: Docile, loving, will raise your chicks, very good with children.
Cons: Can't think of any, excpet that their crests and small size makes them have a greater risk with predators.
I love silkies, they are my favorite breed! They go broody constantly. Very tame, they are also very good with children. Not aggressive. The best chicken breed!

Pros: Very good roosters, not aggressive at all. Good with the hens.
Cons: Bigger risk of predators because of their small size. Flightly.
I have one Serama rooster, he is so protective and not aggressive at all. His name is Luigi, he always lets the hens have the treats that i give him.
