Arielle, there is a pretty good thread here on BYC regarding the Woods-style house, 240+ posts and quite a few pics of various adaptations:

Good Morning Hudson Valley! I've been away from this forum a long time and have a lot of reading to do. I've been busy between work and house-painting. 1 side completely done, 3 to go. Hopefully I'll be done before the snow flies.
Lisa, good luck with the shower and congratulations on your...
Agree, good lessons here, thanks all. I never would have thought to look into those lighter breeds if not for this discussion. The Dominique has always interested me as well, I like rose-combed birds, cold here in upstate NY. However, we are interested in good meat birds too, and can settle for...
Oooh, good, I was hoping you'd throw Wyandottes in there...
I've been quietly reading through every post in this thread since I last posted here, such a lot to learn, I'm very grateful for the knowledge shared here. It was a revelation to me that the SOP is designed around form following...
lol, I'm here finally, it's been a real busy week at work and same at home in the evenings. Tomorrow we are heading up to VT for my nephew's wedding and we'll be offline all weekend, it is on a farm ! I'll be sure to report back on any chicken sitings
And what great sleeping weather! Hated to...
Those are some beautiful eggs. Don't you also have a Black Australorps from Meyer? I'm curious to know how the BA compares to your BR for eggs when she gets going.
Notable Nancy, I meant to comment quite a few pages back on how beautiful your olive egg from your Izzy is., and I also love the...
Wow, 7 yrs old and still laying, those must be from great stock! They are so pretty too, are they a flighty bird like a lot of the light breeds or do you find them calm and friendly?
Thank goodness it finally cooled down here tonight, hope everyone enjoys the lower temps and sleeps well tonight!
Really beautiful eggs, love the blue-green! I'm sure you're new EEs will also give you some gorgeous eggs. The video Meyer has on their EE sale page shows all those chicks hatching from some lovely light blue eggs, so it seems like they are selecting for blue as much as possible.
Thank you for...
Ah, oh well, that shoots down that theory then, may be better off going to a good local breeder for Marans. I'll still be interested to see how your Meyer chicks grow out and eventually lay, though.
Great Lisa, who do you think is the second egg layer? LOL at pole-dancing hens...I would return those shavings to TSC if you just bought them! I hope the weather holds out for you, at least it is much cooler today than yesterday, enjoy the wedding - nice location!
Greetings, I've been lurking following this thread for a long time because I've considered using Meyer for some EE chicks someday, people who have gotten their EEs from Meyer seem to get a lot of nice large blue eggs from them.
I've always wanted Marans also, but figured I'd go the breeder...
Lexi, both the chicks and your hamburg are so cute! Is one of those chicks a SLW - the middle one?
Oh, I didn't mean the Palisades Mall, I used to work at Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory (now called Earth Observatory) in the town of Palisades. I did some of my graduate research there, a...
Lisa, I wish that we're my coop! That is a photo I took in France 2 years ago of the farm next door to my DH's uncles house in Burgundy. DH was born there and we go back every couple of years to visit his family. We had the best eggs and meat from that same little farm while we visited, so I...
Welcome Sallysec! You mean town of Rockland? Not far at all. Hope your hatch goes well. What breeds do you have?
So cute! Hope you got a few more by now, what kind are they?
Wow, what a hot day. I sure hope everyone's animals are OK this week. It was 99 this afternoon in Kingston when I...
LOL, I absolutely love winter, you'll never hear me complain about the cold, bring on the snow...
Today was probably not the best day for me to take a vacation day to get more house painting done, but I started at 7 AM and quit around noon. Looking forward to going back to my air-conditioned...
So sorry about your chick. I would not know what else to do in this heat either, just plenty of shade, and blocks of ice in their water. Box fan may be a good idea too Lisa. We don't have AC in our house but I have 3 of those high velocity fans running all the time,I got them at Sam's club...
Lexi sure knows chickens, she was right!
You will be having a lot of babies around your place between your chicken eggs about to hatch and some new ducklings, how fun! How many weeks to the ducks eggs take to hatch?
I got so excited about Lisa'a first egg that I forgot to say thanks for...
It looks perfect! Did she lay another one today?
Duck eggs are great, I've baked with them before years ago, they are so much larger and make baked goods even airier than chicken eggs, wish I could raise some ducks here, but just not setup right for them.

I have an australorp, SL Wyandotte, silkie, RIR, red sex links, brown leghorns (the only white egg layers I believe), a barred rock, orpingtons, and an EE. Do you think it was the SLW? Has anything hatched from under your silkie yet?
Wow, I miss a morning of checking in and look at...
