no my coop is pred proof, the problem is when they roam free, usually early in the morning i see a darn fox and he see me then he just goes away. The area is not yet fenced off but it will be in a month or so. Well my question is, will an ostrich attack humans and predators if it is train properly?
I see, I assume that happens when the feed mixture is not properly balanced. Anyways my new feed mixture is great!, today is now 2 weeks and my chicks average 85 grams. They are fully feathered out and healthy. The reason i am asking is because i read for leghorn type (layers), their weight...
I have been having problems with darn dogs and foxes and other predators. I need somthing that can live side by side with the chickens and protect them. I thought maybe an ostrich might be good. Any ideas?
Hi, I need to know how i can be sure that my chicks are growing at proper rates. Since i make my own feed, i need to test its' quality in terms of growth rate. What should their weight be after 2 weeks? I use raw lentils as the main ingredient for high protein.
Ok, it is very important for me to know if my chicks are growing at the proper rate. I make my own mixtures and i use lentils as the main source of protein. My mix contains 18% protein and i feed them 2 seperate meals of grass/greens daily. The chicks I have all are mixed, i have no single...
well i have a seperate heater... i use a gas heater because i raise between 200-250 chicks every batch. I guess ill turn off the lights for them because sleep is important for growth.
I was wondering, should i keep the light on longer into the night so they can eat more to grow? Or is it bad to keep them up too long? and if I can keep them up, how long? my chicks are 11 days old now
Ok, I make my own feed for my baby chicks. I have a complete mixture for them but it doesnt include natural grass. What is the name of the machine that can cut up grass, leaves , etc.. into tiny pieces? This way i can give them fresh pasture on a daily basis. Any ideas? I mean i tried a blender...
i mean not all 300 are fertile beause half of the eggs are from other people. But my eggs are always fertile. So after i elminate the unfertile ones i usually get 90% + success. But thought if they hatched say on day 24, 25 its not healthy for the late ones or somthing
yes the whole 300 eggs are all mix breeds. i dont have pure breeds. so your talking about a large pool or mixed genes.... I guess ill see where the most eggs failed and what trays gave the most, thanks for the tip
Ok I had my chicks beggin piping on the 21st day. I have put 300 eggs in the incubator (gqf 1502 sportsman). I aalways do 1 set each time. Now, from day 21 till day 23, about 70% hatched, and the rest from day 23 to day 24 or 25. Is that normal for the hatch to drag till day 25? I mean i always...
yea 300, well its more like 298 or somthing. I use the 1502 sportsman. I never do weekly hatches... I jut fill up the 3 racks, and on the 19th day i place trays.
ok great thanks, i opened the door for 5 seconds to put a sponge because my RH WS 55% and now it went up to 63%. I dont think this will effect it? I mean the RH was 55% since the beggining of day 21 ( it went for 10 hours at that humidity till i increased it just a few miniutes ago).
