What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, basically what I do as well, except I use the 3-inch net pots with the slits. Like you said, simple and no cost for the most part.

What did you do in the garden today?

I think I understand how the wicking pad works. I have several sub-irrigated planters and they work great. I like the whole water reservoir concept which is used in my sub-irrigated planters. But, back to my original question, if the wicking mat is keeping the soil in the seed starting packs...

What did you do in the garden today?

I have seen a few YouTube videos on those self-wicking seed trays. They get good reviews. Thanks for the link. The thing I don't yet understand is that if the wicking mat keeps the plant trays constantly in touch with water, what is the difference between that and just having 1/8- to 1/4-inch...

What did you do in the garden today?

:idunno Well, I guess the net pot method is not for everyone. For me, it was the best method I have ever used. My roots did indeed air prune, the potting soil stayed inside the net pots, and they were the healthiest transplants I ever had. I think my tomatoes and peppers were 8 weeks old when I...

What did you do in the garden today?

⚠️ Exploring Seed Germination Alternatives I am exploring a number of different ways to germinate seeds to make best use of my limited space for starting plants for later transplanting in my gardens. I have been dropping 2 or 3 seeds into a 3-inch net pot filled with potting soil and hoping...

What did you do in the garden today?

:idunno I was assuming that if pond liner was safe for fish, it would be food safe. Pond liner is not cheap. I don't know about billboard vinyl being food safe or not. But that would be my concern with any materials I put into a raised bed for growing food.

What did you do in the garden today?

I live in northern Minnesota. I did not think 6 mil plastic sheeting would survive our winters without cracking. I checked out the cost of heavy duty pond liner, and it was rather expensive. That's how I ended up going the hügelkultur raised bed method. Yep, I mainly use them for shallow root...

What did you do in the garden today?

@TJAnonymous, would you say a word or two, or pictures, on how you make your self-watering raised beds? I'd be interested in how you do it. FWIW, I mainly build 4X4 foot 16-inch-high raised pallet wood beds. Then I fill them with the hügelkultur method which is a great water sponge. Almost as...

What did you do in the garden today?

:old My old eyes failed me on that one. But I found those tabs now, thank you. Problem was that Excel had those tabs in a very light blue color and I did not recognize them as tabs. In any case, I have been looking through your spreadsheet and it looks great. FYI, I use the free LibreOffice...

What did you do in the garden today?

:tongue Well, I have purchased lifetime software in the past only to be disappointed that a year or two later they went out of business or decided to change the name of their software so as to not honor their previous commitments. At least I still had the old program which still worked and my...

What did you do in the garden today?

I did not see any Log tab. I was looking for other tabs but did not see any. I'll check it out again. That Log tab sounds more like what I was looking for. But I did like the garden layout that I saw.

What did you do in the garden today?

OK, is that a garden layout design? That's what is looks like to me. Nicely done. That might come in handy for me. I checked out that SeedTime software, and you have to pay extra for the garden layout feature. Thanks for sharing.

What did you do in the garden today?

:idunno I guess I sound like an old man... :old Oh, wait. I am an old man! But yes, there were some good old days back then, but good days now, too.

What did you do in the garden today?

I just found out about SeedTime last night. Are you using the free version? I don't want to get into $10 per month subscriptions or anything like that. :old I remember when you bought software and it was yours. I don't like have to "rent" software by the month with those subscriptions. :tongue...

What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks for the replies. I do have spreadsheet software. But like I said, I am trying to not reinvent the wheel by creating my own system if there is something out there already that works. I may end up creating my own spreadsheet, but it would not be my first choice.
