Ya...When they changed the site we lost the ability to search threads by contributor, we lost the ability to do keyword thread searches, we lost the ability to see all the photos on a thread, we lost the ability to create a virtual flock for others to see how many of each breed we had in our...

I tried to be organized for a lot of years. It seemed that I only ever got half the things done that I had planned. I am into a routine now, but still have twice as many things that I feel I should be doing that I am not. Do you have an anti broody box? We hatch from March to June. If hens...

I did well this year. My goal is to always have all the flock thinned by Thanksgiving. We only did about 50 birds this year but I got all the cockerels culled by the end of October and all of the 18-month hens that we rotated out of the breeding flock and all the pullets are now gone after...

Hardiness or something that is bred in over time. You might have one line of Rhode Island Reds that have hardiness and another line that doesn't have it. They way to breed for hardiness is to cull (remove from your breeding flock) anything that has ever been sick even if they get better and...

Yes, I want to breed all the best stock this year. I set up four breeding lines a few years back and typically breed one of the line is a side breeding pen that is pedigreed and then have the other three lines all together in a non-pedigreed flock. I hatch from both. I typically retain my...

We have had our share or predator attacks. I have lost as many as 35 in one night. We try to keep lots of back ups. I am very happy with two of my surviving Breeder hens. One won Best of Show in the 2016 on-line Cream Legbar show out of about 100 entries. The other one was Reserve of Breed...

I have Cream Legbars. I have been working with Legbars since 2011 making my flock the oldest Legbar flock in Oklahoma that I know of. I set up my breeding groups on New Years day every year (working on pens today) and then start my test hatching in February. Hatching eggs are typically...

Yes...the funky hair doo gets a lot of attention. The slate colored crest it typically described with a French baret but since the Legbar is an English breed my favorite post on the hair doo was when these two were posted side-by-side.

I haven't posted on this thread for a while. It has been a tough year for the flock. We lost 7 of our 10 hens from the Cream Legbar breeding flock this year (6 to predators 1 to illness). We lost all three of out Breda Gueldre hens this year (two to predators and one to the summer heat). We...

We had a good Thanksgiving. We raised a few turkeys this year and had our first Thanksgiving with a home grown bird. The hens all dress out to 23-26 lbs and the toms dressed out to 40 lbs (no feet, no neck, no giblets). They were big and beautiful.

I like my chickens. They have been a great education. There will be several BYC'er from the Okie thread with Legbars at the meet. We can't all win so I hope everyone has a good experience so they will continue to work on getting the Cream Legbars accepted into APA. I try to get good birds in...

Well...For BYC has been less user friendly since the last overhaul. I used to store all the photos of my flock on my profile as well and list all the breeds in my flock and how many of each that I had. All the threads that I had commented on were listed on my profile with indication of any new...

I had a great time at the fair. I had 5 Cream Legbar Pullets at the fair along with two cream legbar cockerels and a pair of White legbars. They all looked great and we got a best of breed, reserve of breed, and a third place breed trophy. The one that I picked to win best of breed took...

Well...we checked-in 22 animals at the Pittsburg Country Fair yesterday. Poultry Judging was this morning, but I haven't been by to see how any of our entries did yet. We entered 7 Cream Legbars, 2 White Legbars, 2 Columbian Plymouth Rocks, 2 African Geese, and a Turkey. Goat judging is this...

I hatch from March - May (give take a few weeks). The hens always seem to go broody about the week after we pull the plug on the incubator.

Where are you located. I bred Marans and Blue Eggers for years. I still have a few good contacts in the state for these breeds, but I am now down to just the blue eggers. We decided to try the one breed flock things for a few years. It seemed like a smarter way to do things since we were...

we only ended up with 16 chicks out of 22. No bad but we got spoiled with 100% hatches the last two times.
