Is there a mechanical plucker that will work on all poultry, including ducks?
Was hoping we could make or find a plucker that will effectively pluck all the birds we raise (including muscovy ducks, chickens & turkeys). I haven't been able to find much on the effectiveness of plucking ducks...
I have 5 bourbon red poults hatched on 6/6 ... I know they're still probably too young but I thought maybe some experts might know what I might have.
this is the smallest but i bribed them with food so I could take some pictures this little one "clucked" up a storm at me and paraded all...
...the pictures this morning ... they're so much worse than they were 2 days ago... my heart is breaking for the pain I've put her through...

My very special Muscovy girl appears to have gangrene...
I brought...
My hen (about 4 years old - bantam) cut her comb about 1.5 weeks ago... Just when I thought it was starting to get better it got much worse about 4 days ago. I've been cleaning it with diluted betadine and putting furazone on it (only ointment I have) I'm going to get triple antibiotic ointment...
I have a hen that I found with a very swollen comb. looks like she either cut it and it got infected or pehaps it's an abscess coming out. She was her normal self - I've since separated her and she's not very happy about it but I don't want one of the roosters to mess with her.
I've been...
I have a 3 week old chick that I heard doing a little coo/chatter the other day once I put them away for the night (goes in a special "hut" with it's mom and 2 other chicks) ... I thought it was a respiratory irritation so I've put a little VetRx on her beak and chest the past couple of nights -...
I've been toying with the idea of some Guinea's because of the "distances" they go to get the bugs vs the chickens ... but I've always talked myself out of it because of them typically being difficult to train to go back IN the coop at night ... So I was wondering - if I had a Chicken hatch some...
Is it possible and/or what special measures should/do I need to take to have a successful hatch - of hatching Call Duck and Muscovy Duck eggs at the same time?
They're laying like they're going out of style - so I though I'd toss a few in the bator.
I just have a Little Giant - (no extra's -...
My Gray Call Drakes lady went missing about a week ago. It's very upsetting, that I've no clue what happened to her - I can only imagine that a wandering dog (as there are a few Yellow labs known to wander) might have grabbed her - or perhaps a hawk. Whatever it was - it left no sign of her and...
At first I didn't think anything of it - but how bad is putting vaccinated and non-vaccinated chicks in the same brooder ?
I hatched a few myself this weekend and the week before they were due to hatch my friend asked me if I'd split an order with her - I said I would (not really thinking)...
I was thinking of making my roosts out of PVC and then applying grip tape to them so that it wouldn't be slippery...
Has anyone else ever used PVC successfully ?
I was wondering what kind of colors could I get from this group of colors ... I'm horrible with the DNA stuff (no matter how hard I try to figure it out ... I just can't do the punnet squares correctly)
So I have for my LF Cochins:
Silver Laced Roo
~
Gold Laced Hen
Partridge Hen
2 Blue...
I have a NN frizzle roo who I believe dislocated his leg a while back... (maybe broke it/slipped something) he had limped along for a few days - not bad but enough to notice. I kept an eye on him to make sure he was eating/drinking and getting around. And he did... After a week of it not getting...
Right now all but 1 of my roos "get along" ... they're all still young <1 year old ... they all free range on 3 acres and tuck themselves into the coop at night in their favorite places ...
I have ...
1 Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin
1 Lavender Bantam Cochin
1 SL LF Cochin
1 NN Frizzle
and

I cannot keep D'uccle hens alive ... just lost my last female last night (she has refused to bare weight on one leg for over a month - has been separated since but could hop well 1 legged )
last year I purchased a few pullets - they all died by spring/summer ...
so I hatched some this spring...
both of his feet look like this (and no one elses does)
7 month old D'uccle Roo -
he's not lame - I did separate him 2 weeks ago because he had a bloody foot blood feather ... - there were mild signs of the redness ... I treated with bagbalm on the bloody foot - and permethrin10 on the other...
I'm battling what I assume to be scaly leg mites. I found one of my d'uccle roos with a bloody foot a few days ago - upon inspection his scales were a bit uplifted - so I cleaned the foot, stopped the bleeding with quick stop, smothered the rest of his leg with bag balm and then wrapped it to...
I have a SL LF Cochin Pullet - came from a hatchery (I assume) as she was "sexed" and got her with 3 other "sisters" one of which is a beautiful Rooster! ... their about 5 months old.
about a month ago - she started acting strange, didn't want to move around much, came out of the coop and...
I didn't really know where to post this... but maybe here - I hope .
How does everyone ship their chickens ?
Tips/Tricks of the Trade ?
What has worked well, what hasn't ?
etc. etc. etc. . .
I've never ever shipped anything before - so I'd just like to explore what options there are to...
