At least one.. all that was left was a few feathers, a foot that was attached to some spine and the neck...
I have to wait until Saturday now until I can get the bird netting across.
Ugh. Can't take the young one with me in this snowy weather or leave him in the house alone this long. Did I say...
Alaskan, 5 kids, you crazy? ;) Haha
Hennible, the daughter of my mom's friend just had her 4th natural after 3 csections
Have you seen the article where they discovered at a 22 week ultrasound that a mom had a uterine rupture. Baby's feet and amniotic sac where sticking out. 6th pregnancy...
@Alaskan yepp, the wee man is fine. Actually he is growing at the top of the growth charts, he's been in the 95th percentile...
I have been reassured many many times that the things that went wrong are so rare on their own already that chances are we'll have a normal birth with the next one...
Via emergency csection @Alaskan too many things went wrong during labor that the obgyn that was brought in recommend a csection. Our little one came out just in time that we got to avoid the nicu with him.
That doesn't even cover bad hatch rates from the ducks and the fact that the raccoons killed the survivors when they where big enough to join the flock... Just a bad year... Ugh
Beercan, duck egg business started off good, got lots of eggs per day and then my numbers dwindled mid summer. Stupid ravens were stealing left right and centre... We battled until the ducks went into molt and they haven't laid since. Didn't help then that we recently had a family of raccoons...
Still alive, sorry I haven't checked in on what seems like forever.
Hennible is right, we welcomed our baby boy just 6 weeks ago ;)
Merry Christmas to all!
Depends how open your space is too. Not long ago we had a dead deer right on the property line and up to 8 bald eagles feasting on it. The neighboring property is clear cut with a large pond. The eagles never bothered my chickens. I have enough huge old trees on the property that eagles can't...
Can you free range your chickens Alaskan? My feed consumption has gone done quite a bit although I am currently going on a daily egg hunt all over the place.
Chickens are finding a ton of spiders and bugs. Heck, today one of them killed a mouse. Yay for free ranging and the birds sticking to...
Stay away from the feed stores! Turns out my feed store only started doing this accidentally. They do special order for customers, but then someone said no to 100 chicks on the day they were shipped. Last minute cancellation. So they just displayed them and they were all gone by Friday. they...
@Outpost JWB I just had 10 gooslings sent from California to BC, Canada. They did fine and are settling in even better. So they had at least 2 flights and then a 1 1/2+ hour car drive and a 20 minute ferry ride. Well travelled birds, ha-ha.
I also stopped at the feed store on the way back home...
Alaskan, that sucks...did they come from far?
Cold Canadian, yepp that's how our insurance companies work. My dad had his car hit while parked at the bank. The other driver fully said it was his fault yet my dad still had to take 50% of the blame according to insurance. Because he sat in the...
That is exactly what I thought, but apparently when she slammed on the breaks she became responsible for the ppl behind her.. Especially since the motorcyclist had no chance to see why. It wasn't a truck or a car.
And I guess once again human life trumps that of a family of animals.
That's interesting getaclue. Here in Canada there was a case where a car driver slammed on the breaks to avoid hitting a momma duck and her babies.
The car driver had a motorcyclist with his daughter on the back behind her. Unfortunately the motorcyclist slammed into the car abd they became a...
Checking in, all is well with you?
My new 10 embden geese will be arriving Tuesday morning!! So excited!!
I put 7 duck eggs into the incubator but I doubt they'll be fertile. Too many girls for the boys. Still have to separate a breeding group.
In more good news, the partridge chantecler...
Yay for eggs hennible!
Not enough light you say? Even though I place them outside on the nice days? Gaah!
Hubby and I were talking last night. So the original plan was to sell 2 goose pairs when they are older.. But if they do lay next year we may be better off to keep them and sell eggs...
My seedlings have stopped their growth.. Man I suck at this.
In good news, hubby agreed to us getting a couple of geese. Who knew there was a minimum order of 10. Haha
That's huge! You still should have weighted it, ha-ha. True weight or not. The black egg was only 71g, but still one of the bigger eggs I have gotten as a maiden egg. Yeah, I weigh them all.
