Haven't checked into this thread for a while, but I have quite a story to share.
Just a week ago a raccoon got in and got a couple of my turkeys, so we decided to move them to another coop that was bulletproof. Somehow, we miscounted out birds back then, and just this morning we sort of had a...
Hello everyone, just last night I had trouble with a raccoon in the coop and of course, he took one of my only 2 toms. I currently have 23 hens but I believe that only 10 of them have been laying due to the time of year right now (only been getting 4-5 eggs a day). I remember hearing that one...
I can get 20% layer from a feed mill in Boise for $13 for 50lb, sadly it is a bit of a trip to get there. If I only buy locally though it costs $20 a bag for 16% 50lb, HORRIBLE.
I don't think that it is the light doing it nor the protein percentage. I'll try getting higher protein percentage and hope that helps. It is the exact same thing that I did last year when I got 10 eggs a day so I don't know exactly what is wrong. They also have the oyster shell to eat, free choice.
Any hints on getting more eggs from your hens. I currently have 18 hens but I have only gotten a max of 3 eggs in a day. I am currently feeding them a mix of barley fodder and layer pellets. There also is a light on in the coop all night long. I really need some more eggs for when I start...
My hens at my house haven't really been laying that much. I've only got 2 eggs a day at max with some days of getting nothing. I have 18 hens and usually they lay 10 eggs a day or more. Do any of you guys have experience with egg shortages??
Just got back to BYC from a long break. I've got 24 bourbons right now hoping to hatch some out in a few months. 5 toms and 19 hens. I'm back to the thread.
I think that one of my hens is finally getting broody!!! Out of 23 of them finally one might be. She completely covered her eggs with straw. I am sos excited since they seem so happy when they hatch their own. I like it when the chicks ride on the hen's back it is cute.
I'll trade you hens. I am trying to get mine broody right now but they won't for the life in them. Hopefully with the nice weather coming up they will though.
The chicks were inside but I just gave them some grit from outside for them to eat some fodder that I grow. i guess it was that that did it. The disease came in right after I put it in.
Disease is over for sure now. i got them some corid, all 12 of my chicks are healthy. Still sadly 20 died. That was too many for me. I am prepared for the next time though. Thanks for the help you all gave.
Whatever the disease is it's still going on. I thought they were getting better until last night when 3 died. I don't think that it is environmental since none of my chicken chicks in the area, in a different brooder, seem to be affected. I separated the healthy ones onto wood chips and they are...
That sucks, after around 10 hatches total I am still getting only half-decent hatch rates. The turkey hatch this year was my biggest success. Until right around now anyways.
